Where Is Curacao?

Curacao, also written as Curaçao, is a tropical island in the Caribbean full of amazing beaches, wildlife, and unique adventures.

There are so many things to do in Curaçao, you're guaranteed to have a great time. But even after a long day of adventures don't go to bed early! Curacao's nightlife is also world-class, turning the entire island into a massive party at night.

Before enjoying Curacao, let's make sure you're in the know of everything about Curacao's airport now.

What Airport is in Curacao?

The one and only airport in Curacao is the Curacao Aiport, also known as Hato International Aiport or Hato Airport. It's a vast new airport that offers services from all kinds of airliners worldwide.

The airport code for Curacao is CUR. It can accommodate flights to Curacao from Europe, South America, North America, and the Caribbean.

You can find direct flights to cities and states such as Miami from American Airlines, Newark from KLM and Arkefly, and Dusseldorf with Air Berlin.

It's also the only available airport on the island, making it the main airport in Curacao. One of its most distinctive features is its long runway. In fact, CUR Airport as one of the longest runway in the Caribbean.

History fact: During the Second World War, Hato International Airport was the main airport used by the US Air Force to patrol against submarines. There were many flying units ready for battle using this airfield.

Where Is Curacao Airport?

Curacao International Airport can be found in the northern part of Curacao, 12 kilometers from the capital, Willemstad. The airport links Europe, America, and the Caribbean with connecting flights.

Which Airlines Fly to Curacao?

I've already mentioned a few of the departure destinations and airlines that connect Curacao to the rest of the world. If you're still curious, here's a more extensive list of the well-known air carriers that fly into the Curacao Airport:

Lesser-known airlines like TUI Netherlands, Surinam Airways and TUI Netherlands also have flights going into Caracao.

Non-Stop Flights Into Curacao

Whether you're coming from Canada, somewhere in the Caribbean, or all the way from Europe, you'll find flights with no stops to Curacao incredibly available.

When I first started looking up this travel destination since I have a friend's wedding to get to, I thought I'd be stopping in at least 1 or 2 places for layovers. I was so wrong—and that makes me super happy!

Inside the Curacao Airport

Now that you know more about the airport and how you'll get there, what about once you get there? I'm happy to report that Curacao Airport is a fairly good airport for traveler needs.

The airport is complete with an ATM, currency exchange, information desks, and its own Wi-Fi. There are toilets available in various corners of the building.

There are also many places to shop inside the airport, including a duty-free shop where you can buy goods and souvenirs for your trip back home. You'll be able to find items like perfumes, cigarettes, and alcohol.

You'll also find several cafes and restaurants inside if you're hungry.

What About VIP Lounges at Hato International Airport?

You're in luck! If you love to add an additional luxury to your travel experience, like me, the CUR Airport won't disappoint. This airport has a nice VIP lounge that's open from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm daily.

Now I haven't had the chance to drop into this lounge, but the amenities it lists look impressive. Upon entry to this lounge, you'll get access to the following:

  • Internet
  • Refreshments
  • Showers
  • Wi-Fi
  • Air conditioning
  • Alcohol
  • Fax machine

If you're part of Priority Pass, you'll be able to access the lounge through this program. You can also search up more info on lounges using LoungeBuddy—you should even be able to pay for entry through this if you don't have access to the lounge in another way!

Curacao Airport After the Pandemic

As of March 10, 2022, there are no more risk classifications for travelers from all countries. There is no Covid testing required before traveling to Curacao.

Travelers will only need to fill out the Passenger Location Card. You'll also need to complete the Digital Immigration Card—this card is mandatory for all foreign travelers.

Types of Transportation at Curacao's Airport

Airport transfers can be confusing for first-timers. There are different kinds of transportation options for getting to and from the airport in Curacao. Here are some of the ones you'll want to consider:

Airport Buses

If you don't mind public buses, you'll find service to and from the airport. Buses are also a lot cheaper than the other types of transportation. So, if you're visiting on a budget, they're the perfect option.

Car Rentals

Car rental in Curacao airport is always in demand. You'll also find numerous car rental agencies available onsite. Think Avis, Hertz, and Budget!

If you'd like, you can also book your car rental online before coming to Curacao using apps like Fareportal and Travelocity.

Taxis and Shuttles

Shuttles and taxis are also available 24-hours every day in the transportation area. Curacao airports' shuttle transfers are the most reliable and modern transportation options. You can reserve rides and even pay through a credit card or cryptocurrency!

Which Hotels Are Near the Curacao Airport?

The Curacao Airport doesn't have its own sleep cabins, pods, or day rooms.

That said, you'll find many nearby hotels, resorts, and lodging in the area. So, give the following Curacao hotels near the airport a try!

Curacao Airport Hotel

Curacao Airport Hotel is located in the airport area (less than 2 minutes from the airport's landing strip). The Curacao Airport Hotel is convenient for guests who don't want to stray too far away from the Curacao airport.

J&S Tours Living

J&S Tours Living is an apartment complex that's just a 2-minute drive from the Curacao International Airport and the Sambil Shopping Mall. It has a garden with a barbecue with units featuring a patio, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a private bathroom. You can find their rooms on many booking sites, including Agoda.

ABC Lodges

A beautiful resort hotel just a 5-minute drive from the airport, ABC Lodges has spacious bungalows with porches, a swimming pool, and a tropical garden. They also have big apartments and luxury lodges available if you're looking for something fancier! It's the perfect spot for a carefree holiday stay.

Common Destination: Distance From the Airport

Since Curacao is a smaller vacation destination, many people stay at the same popular resorts. To make it easier for you, I've provided info on how to get from the Curucao Airport to common destinations around the island.

How Far is Willemstad From the Airport?

As I mentioned before, Willemstad is the capital city of Curaçao and is located about 12 kilometers from Hato International Airport.

The best mode of transport is typically a taxi or rental car, which should get you there in about 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Public buses are also available but may take longer due to multiple stops.

How Far is Sandals Curacao From the Airport?

The Sandals Curacao resort is approximately 20 kilometers away from Hato International Airport. The most convenient way to get there is by taxi or a pre-arranged resort shuttle, which should take around 25-30 minutes.

If you opt for a rental car, the drive is usually straightforward and offers the freedom to explore other parts of the island at your leisure.

How Far is Dreams Curacao From the Airport?

Dreams Curacao is situated about 15 kilometers from Hato International Airport. The quickest way to reach the resort is either by taxi or resort shuttle, which usually takes about 20-25 minutes.

How Far is Hilton Curacao From the Airport?

The Hilton Curacao is near the airport, just around 11-12 kilometers away. A taxi or rental car is usually the best way to get there, and the trip should take approximately 15-20 minutes.

It is easier to take public transport to the Hilton compared to others on this list. Just be prepared for a longer journey due to stops, but it is an option.
