Frankly, I am surprised at some of the other very positive Trip Advisor reviews because we have decided that we will not return to this particular hotel on our future trips to Calgary. We do anticipate visiting the city multiple times a year from now on. We stayed in a double queen room. On a positive note, the beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. It was nice to have a small fridge. On the first two mornings, we received a note pushed under our bedroom door advising that the room would not be serviced due to the "Do Not Disturb" sign being displayed in the morning. It is true that we had the sign out overnight but the hotel's breakfast was still available when this was done - - we were not late leaving the room either day. Both days we went to the front desk to request that the room be serviced and it was. With respect to the breakfast, there was no yoghurt, orange juice, muffins or Danish available. We saw scrambled eggs and potatoes on two consecutive days. Sausages were offered one day and back bacon the other. There was oatmeal and cereal available plus bread for toasting. Comparatively speaking, it was a pretty boring, uninspired hotel breakfast. The breakfast room doubles as a lounge in the evening. It is quite dark. We are Marriot rewards members and have definitely enjoyed better breakfasts at other Marriott properties. Finally, I want to describe the bathroom /shower area. The walk in shower and toilet are enclosed by a sliding door. There was a towel bar above the toilet and one small hook on the wall. No door knobs or other towel bars to hang towels or clothing or a toiletry bag on inside or outside the shower area. In the bathroom area, there was no way to minimize the lighting for nighttime trips to the toilet. The switch that controlled the light in the toilet also controlled the lighting by the sink area which was not behind a door. There was no natural light. So, if you anticipated getting up through the night, you could either leave the bathroom lights on all night or turn both on and off in the middle of the night. Some hotels resolve this by having a small, dim light built into a light switch or electric outlet. If I were staying again, I would pack a night light. All in all, it was a meh experience for us. We did not use the pool or gym.Show More

If staying...This is an OK instance of the Marriott's "hip" Aloft brand hotel. On the plus side, the staff were friendly and helpful, the free breakfast was decent, and the bed and pillows were comfy. If staying here, I'd ask for a room that is NOT on the ground floor right by a parking space. My room only had one big window. And that window only had a blackout shade (no sheers/curtains). Cars parked RIGHT next to the window. See pic here. If you had your shade open, people getting in and out of cars were just feet away from you in your room. When they were in their car, your hotel room was like a big screen TV for the folks in the front seat. That felt really weird - both being in the room and getting into my car right outside a room with the shade up and two people lounging on their bed. You can have privacy by closing that one blackout shade - but then your room has no natural light. They need some sheers. A minor irritation is that the toilet seat is placed close to a side wall, and a clueless designer but the toilet paper holder jutting out the wall a few inches in front of the toilet, so it actually blocks your access to the toilet and restricts your legroom while on the toilet. Truly a minor issue - but something you would think Marriott, with all their years of hotel design, would have figured out was a bit moronic. The hotel is near public transportation, which seemed a feature when I booked the hotel. I had a rental car but thought it might be nice to avoid driving in the city. Once I looked at where I wanted to go in the city and the options for getting there via public transport from the hotel, it always seemed better to drive. So this didn't prove much of a feature for me. Overall, a decent stay. I would stay here again - but would ask for a room not right next to car parking places.Show More

I never get housekeeping service and always put my DND on the door. We went out to go to the Science Center and the outlet mall and we were gone all day - with the DND on the door. Housekeeping went in and cleaned our room. No big deal except they touched all of our things, and I put all of our laundry in a bag in the open bin in the room its where I normally store it because I NEVER get housekeeping service. Well they emptied the bin. I went to the front desk and they said oh they wont have thrown it out we will look for it and she will tell her manager. Okay... so next morning, the front desk agent either didnt put it in the pass on and never told the manager because the front desk was like no we dont know anything about this, I say okay we will go for breakfast then talk, they say houskeeping said we called and asked for our rooms to be cleaned so thats why they cleaned it, but they will still look for our clothes. So they say there is nothing we can do but contact our managers because they are all gone for training. So we check out. I call as I havent heard anything, this time they say housekeeping told them that we came back and we had taken our DND off the door, I said that is impossible becuase we were out all day. Fast forward like a month and the FD supervisor and I talk. She agreed it is frustrating and I thought she said she would reimburse us $125 and as her GM if she can add points. I accepted this. Next I find out she says that we had agreed on Marriott points, to compensate for THROWING OUT MY FAMILYS CLOTHES! Anyway here we are, they dont care, they gave me 7000 points which is the equivalent of $56 Canadian Dollars. Never going there again and it is the lying and lack of response that makes this a terrible hotel.Show More

On the good side of this hotel: the location is convenient, the rooms are sleek, clean and modern, and the breakfast is very good. The disappointments were as follows: - the safe in the room didn't work and I had to call to have it fixed. This seems like something staff could check as part of their regular duties preparing rooms; - the iron left a gross smear of brown goo on my white shirt after it was warmed up. I had to run around and buy another shirt for a reception I was attending later that day. Yes, I should have checked the sole plate of the iron by testing it on a towel but I forgot. However, the hotel should ensure the amenities it provides are suitable for use. Hotel staff provided a replacement iron. Once I was home, it took several washes and some powerful stain remover to dislodge the stains. - the room (331) showed some deferred maintenance - weird big scars on the wallpaper in the washroom and a missing tile; - the hotel hosted a large number of school-age kids who stampeded around the hallways and yelling till about 9:45 PM. There was no sign of chaperones keeping their charges under control and nobody from the hotel seemed to check what was going on upstairs, even though there are cameras in the hallways. I told the manager about these issues when I checked out, this is not a review where I am blind-siding management. I will probably stay here again; for Calgary this hotel offers excellent value and normally provides a good experience.Show More
