Upon reaching the ferry terminal, the ushers and car driver attended to us were friendly (no hard-selling, left us alone without bombarding too many questions). We were greeted with the sounding of a gong by 3 smiling staff, and introduced to Dwi who handled our check-in professionally—She went through the nooks and crannies of the resort and its offerings within 12 minutes; the check-in and introduction had been succinct and smooth. Soyvan then sent us to our villa in a buggy. The team surprised me thrice for my birthday—I had a mini chocolate cake, an embroidered “HBD” white runner with leaves and flower petals across on the bed, a birthday song sang by the staff who showed us our villa, and slice of cake with candles. The 2nd surprise was the birthday gift in the form of a turtle shopping tote bag. Just when I felt grateful with all these birthday surprises, Likik, Daus and Darwis serenaded a birthday song to me (a cappella) in the patio of the villa decorated with tea lights and flower petals. We had some drinks by the pool and beach, and had all meals at Tree Top restaurant because we only stayed for a night. Tree Top serves delicious and high quality Indonesian cuisine. Their breakfast spread which consists of Indonesian dishes and Western dishes left us in awe too. I love that they include traditional Indonesian drinks like ginger, rice and tumeric which have no preservatives. I met Fandi, the manager; Amirah and chef Lastri specially prepared Nasi goreng with petai which was in season for me. Both Fandi and Amirah, as well as the rest of the crew were cheery towards all guests. I had more understanding of Indonesian cuisine from Amirah :). The same driver sent us to the ferry terminal after our check-out. The check-out was swift and we did not need to wait long for our car. The villa we stayed in was #119. If the weather is good, you would be able to see a beautiful sunset daily. The villa was well-ventilated, spacious and well-designed, donning Indonesian decor, ornaments and furniture, since we are in Bintan! We also love the mosquito net around the bed. The essentials are well maintained too. I now understand and fully experience the Banyan Tree hospitality and professionalism. The team is very dedicated and I sense they respect their roles a lot. These speak volume in my view, and I enjoy every minute of my short time there. Thank you to everyone we encountered during our stay! Very mixed feelings about this place. I have wanted to try it for years and finally did. On the positive side: - The property is in a great location with a nice beach (for Bintan) - The villas are spa...Very mixed feelings about this place. I have wanted to try it for years and finally did. On the positive side: - The property is in a great location with a nice beach (for Bintan) - The villas are spacious, with a great deal of privacy. Some details are a bit tired, but overall not too bad - The staff is very friendly - The Treetop restaurant is amazing. Go for dinner, if you can book it! ;) However, - The buggy service is a disaster, sometimes leaving you waiting for more than 25 mins. And you will need buggies to go anywhere… what’s a bit frustrating is to see a dozen on buggies parked at the reception, with an uncountable number of people working at the reception, while there is barely any customer. I guess unions forbid them from driving buggies LOL! - The restaurants are fully booked, you need to plan in advance. And drinks are overpriced, even by Bintan standards (a bottle of Cloudy Bay is $400!) - The service is extremely inconsistent. The last night at turn down the staff left our room without electricity, having us returning to a hot and stuffy room - Friendly does not mean flexible policies. We checked in at 6pm on a Friday and asked for a 4pm checkout on Monday. We got the late checkout, for one of our two rooms, but they were going to charge USD 100 for the extra 2 hours (their later checkout is usually 2pm). They waived the fee when we complained, because the first of the two rooms, the one we were asked to leave early, was still completely untouched after two hours. Basically, they told us no for no reason other than bad operations - Your trip starts with a terrible online reservation experience and ends with a slow, manual, paper-based check out. Love the friendliness of everyone, but it feels like the management should invest a bit in better systems and processes to help the friendly staff to delivery a great experience!Show More

We celebrated my husband’s birthday here and the service from the Banyan Tree team was impeccable. From the moment we stepped into the resort, everything just felt right… the relaxing ambience, comforting sound of nature and the perfect escape from the bustle of city life. The villa has a charming, rustic feel and it’s spacious, private and ideal for couples. I especially loved the scent of the incense and the thoughtful amenities. It was such a refreshing and calming retreat. Our favourite dining spot was at Treetop. The indonesian cuisine was so good that we had our breakfast, lunch and dinner there! Thank you to the team for the soulful birthday song and for celebrating my husband’s special day with us. The outdoor breakfast overlooking the sea, surrounded by nature and the sound of waves was simply healing. We also loved the Hilltop Spa. The entire experience was so good that we went back again on our second day. The masseuses were highly skilled and took such great care of us. A special shoutout to Tommy and Denny from housekeeping for making my husband’s birthday even more special. The surprise room decor was so sweet and romantic. We were truly touched. They even prepared our bed and tea for a restful night’s sleep. We felt super pampered. Banyan Tree is truly a sanctuary. A healing place for the soul. We love the serene pace and lifestyle here and I’m definitely going to miss this place. The villas here have strong independence and are quite quiet. Compared to hotels of the same price range in Singapore, this hotel offers better value for money. From the room, you can see the sea. Monkeys sometimes visit the courtyard, which is quite interesting. The rooms are large, clean and tidy. The housekeeping service has a team of three people. The team members of our villa includes Tommy, Denny, and Darwis, who provided excellent service. They did a very surprising room arrangement for us and we really liked it. We also booked a destination dinner on the rocks. This experience was wonderful and not to be missed. The dinner service staff was Bintang. The service was very attentive and professional. Each dish was explained carefully and received our opinions of dishes. The dinner photo he took for us was very very nice and left us with a particularly wonderful memory. The food was also very good. The ingredients were fresh and the desserts were very sweet.Show More
