The ho...During our recent trip to Singapore, we stayed at Furama City Centre. A well-positioned, mid-to-upper-mid range hotel in the heart of Chinatown. Here's a breakdown of our experience:
Location
The hotel's location is unbeatable for anyone wanting to explore Singapore. Its location makes it a strategic base for both business travellers and tourists, with strong walking connectivity to: (MRT, shopping, eateries and hawker centres)
Check-in and Service
Upon arrival, the check-in process was smooth and efficient. The staff were exceptionally warm and welcoming, offering refreshments and a quick overview of the hotel’s amenities. Throughout our stay the service remained brilliant, staff (Ralph) were always attentive, offering suggestions for places to visit and ensuring that all our requests were met promptly.
The concierge team (Zacus) was also very helpful in arranging transportation and other reservations.
Room
We stayed in Executive Room with a city view, and it was gorgeous. The room was spacious, modern, and well-appointed with a comfortable bed. The bathroom featured a bath, separate shower and luxurious toiletries.
Housekeeping frequency (every 3 days) may not suit all guests but can be changed to daily.
This room entitled us to use the Executive Lounge.
Executive Lounge
A great feature of this property. Situated in the foyer area it had complementary food and drinks (Non-alcoholic) all day and night and a Happy Hour between 6pm-8pm. The staff members running this area (Ray, Agnus and Ivy) were sensational. They went beyond the call of duty to ensure we were happy. They also provided excellent advice of places to see around Singapore.
Amenities
A good range of amenities. The water we found in the rooftop pool was a tad cold but guess it was ok for younger adults and kids.
Food
We had breakfast each morning, and it was a standout. The spread included a mix of Western favourites like eggs, pastries, and fresh fruit, along with Singaporean and Asian delicacies. The quality of the food was excellent, and the staff, in particular (Alice) went out of her way to chat every day and ensure everything was ok.
The Seafood and Roast smorgasbords at night time were sensational and well-priced.
Staff
On the staffing front, Furama has fostered a “family-first” culture. According to their own communication, many long-term staff (nearly a third) have stayed over 30 years, suggesting strong employee retention and satisfaction
Summary & Verdict
Highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing and enjoyable visit.
Furama City Centre is a solid pick for travellers who prioritize location, value and a mid-tier hotel that “does its bit” for the environment.
The only drawback is the 3-day room servicing. This can be changed to every day if required.
Excellent location (in Chinatown, good transport links)
Strong credentials in sustainability (BCA Green Mark Platinum, ASEAN Green Hotel Award)
Thoughtful eco initiatives (water stations, energy-efficient systems)
Caring culture toward staff, with good retention and a “family” ethos
Good security and guest safety practices (award-winning)
