I will sometimes post a positive review to help a business out, but I don't believe I've ever posted a negative review. Having worked in the service industry for years, I understand that everyone can have a bad day and I would never want anyone's business to suffer because of a bad day. Good intentions and service on behalf of the owners and employees always means more to me than the amenities. The reason I'm taking the time to write this negative review about Hotel St Thomas is because I believe this hotel is purposely deceiving people.
I rented a deluxe suite with city view and was given a room facing a cement wall. I purposely rented the room for the view of the city and the Montreal skyline. Upon arrival at the hotel, after seeing the room and mentioning the issue, I was told that I should have contacted the hotel beforehand to mention that I specifically wanted a room with a city view. I never thought I would have to contact the hotel to say that I wanted a city view when I rented a room called deluxe suite city view. That specific room should be renamed "deluxe" suite cement wall view. I've since read reviews on expedia and this is a common occurrence with this hotel. The hotel purposely misleads people over and over again and does not make changes. The front desk told me there was nothing they could do to help me but gave me an email address to contact management directly. I contacted management and they NEVER REPLIED TO ME AT ALL!! They didn't even attempt to provide a lame apology.
I'm going to comment on a few other aspects of this room/hotel that since I happen to be writing this review. I don't believe this is a 4* hotel at all, this is an overpriced, renovated and well decorated 3* hotel.
For starters, there are no baggage carts and there is very minimal staff to help you on site. The staff will help you put all your baggage in the elevator and then let you go to the room juggling all your bags. This review is not meant to criticize the staff because I believe the staff does make every effort to be attentive and pleasant.
The mattress is not a 4* mattress, the pillows are not 4* pillows and the sheets are not soft at all. Other 4* hotels have pillows that are so comfortable and sheets so soft that they sell them, whereas these were noticeably less comfortable than what I have at home.
There is no onsite parking, they do have a valet service but if you choose to use the valet service, I was told you cannot have access to your car once the valet takes it.
The rooms are not soundproof, you can hear noise coming from nearby rooms. I was woken up at 4am by all kinds of ruckus taking place in the laneway.
The rooms do not have coffee machines, the hairdryer in my room didn't work, the rooms don't have charging ports and they don't have a public ice machine. They don't provide moisturizing lotion, or bubble bath for the soaker tub and the products provided are not good quality at all. The outside of the bathtub in my room was also noticeably very dirty.
Overall, while the hotel is very stylish, tastefully decorated with rooms that appear nicely renovated, it severely lacks in other areas such as honesty, integrity, service and comfort.Show More
