First impression of the small lobby and decent sized room was that the place was VERY RUN DOWN, SHABBY and VERY DINGY. Definitely felt like a 2 star hotel. Definitely felt like a 2 star hotel. From the utilitarian lobby and elevator area, worn carpet in the elevator and very dark room, it didn’t feel at all like any other Hampton Inn. The room had only a small desk lamp and double wall mounted reading lights between the 2 beds. Maybe dark is better so you don’t see the wear and tear. The bathroom lighting was just terrible. Just an old fluorescent bar light over the mirror. The painted mirror frame was very worn, as were corners of the bathroom door. I was really put off by the condition of the chairs in the breakfast room. Most of the upholstery on the seats were tattered and fabric split. Not very appealing place to eat. The hotel is narrow with the elevator at the center of the floor so you can’t entirely escape the sound it makes yet it wasn’t too bad were my room was located (almost to the corner). The positives are that the pillows and bed were good, it’s in a good neighborhood, the hotel felt safe and the bathroom was clean, and conveniently located. It’s Kitty corner from Northwestern Hospital, across the street from the hospital parking garage, and a block from Michigan Avenue. There was also a very convenient qi wireless phone charging pad on the nightstand and both a luggage rack in the enclosed closet and luggage bench next to the desk. I was on the 20th floor and the only noise I heard (other than other guests coming and going) were occasional ambulance sirens and elevator sounds. Not sure I would consider staying here again unless visiting someone in the hospital and if I got a really great rate. I would look for a deal at a true 3 or 4 star hotel. Family stayed at the Chicago Hotel Collection Magnificent Mile and didn’t have anything good to say about it and likely paid more so I definitely wouldn’t stay there and I guess this hotel was the better of the two.Show More

As diamond members, we have stayed in a lot of Hilton in the past decade, and this is probably one of the worst we have experienced. Room 1920 backed onto the elevators, which meant the room was very noisy from the elevators, but also the external noise as it faced the main road. The air-conditioning was also broken and extremely noisy. We move rooms , 1919, unfortunately, they only had the room next door available for three nights, this was also next to the elevator and faced onto the front main road, so was also extremely noisy. We had a bath that was only big enough for a child to get in although the shower was actually very good - in fact, the shower was the best element of the hotel. The hotel felt like it was still stuck in the 1980s in terms of the decor and quality. The variety of breakfast was also extremely limited, which is very unusual for a Hilton, even for the Hampton Brand. We found it very strange that there were no cups, plates or cutlery. Everything was disposable. It didn’t feel very eco-friendly. Overall, it was a real letdown experience and we certainly wouldn’t be returning to this hotel. The only member of staff we met who was really positive with the gentleman cleaning up up at breakfast.Show More

I experienced a series of travel events that day due to winter weather and my flight ended up being canceled after 11 delays and the pilot “Timed Out” and American Airlines did not ensure they had a pilot on standby. My flight ended up being rebooked for the next day in the evening….So, sleeping in the airport was NOT an option. After calling the Marriott Customer Service Line, the representative informed me that he tried calling 7 locations in the area and they were all booked due to earlier cancellations; plus, that was all of the available Marriott locations in the area. So, he helped me get a reservation with the Hampton Inn. I finally arrived around 0400 after waiting over 2.5 hours to retrieve my luggage. The Hampton Representative Marcus was more than empathetic and quickly got me situated for the few hours I needed to sleep before heading back to the airport. As I was getting ready to check out, I met Ms. Lynette who spent some time talking with me about my eventful travel day. The kindness and compassion of the Hampton Representatives is what helps a person to be able to regroup and start again on another day. Kudos to Hampton (Chigaco). I’ll definitely add them to my list of preferences.Show More

However, everything about the hotel is worn, old, dirty and not well kept. The first morning, we woke up and the hot water heater went out and we were not notified. When we called the front desk, we were told it should be working by noon. Finally at 5pm, with not hot water to shower, they informed us they are hoping by midnight to have hot water. We would have switched hotels if we had known we would not be able to take showers. The cost is lower than other hotels in the area, however, for me the low price is worth how old and gross the hotel is.Show More
