To avoid being stuck in the street you basically had to b...Our family stayed here with my wife & our 2 kids, 5 & 7 years old. Arriving was challenging as there were too many cars checking in (3:45pm). To avoid being stuck in the street you basically had to block part of the entry way. There was a worker there but they provided no guidance as to where to go & cars kept just pulling around us in a frenzy. We luckily got a spot on the side & went to the lobby to check in. Once inside the lobby was nice. We were Riu Class members so we hopped in that “preferred” line with only 1 person in it. After several minutes we noticed the other line was faster. So we went to that line with several folks and got helped much quicker. Granted it could be that the family in front of us in preferred had a complicated set up. After check in I went to park the car in the parking garage. It was a $60 fee but we knew that in advance. What we didn’t know was the parking garage height limit was just over 6ft. It’s not like we drive a monster truck (2024 Subaru Ascent). This scared the crap out of me because the hanging bar touched our roof and I had to drive 2 miles an hour in the lot for fear of scraping it. Fortunately it never did & we were able to park & exit 2x’s without issue. After that complicated entrance & nail biting parking garage, I went to get the wife and I a drink. It is $16 for a margarita. FYI, this is not abnormal for a high end bar in that area. Drinks were ok. What wasn’t ok was when I asked the bartender if they wouldn’t mind refilling my water bottle from the drive in. She proceeded to turn on the tap water to which I declined. I asked if they had any filtered water or a refill station. She said I would have to go to the gym for that. I just had to ask given it’s a bar, “what water do you serve your guests that ask for water with their alcoholic beverage?” To my surprise she said they served the tap water to them. I politely declined the tap water & took my $38 in margaritas ($6 tip) back to our room. We stayed in room 3101, which was promoted as a premium room & the picture showed it having a city view. There was no view except of a tree and the neighboring hotel. The room was small & I questioned what premium features it had. But it worked for the little time we planned to spend in it. The bathroom was tiny as you had to go in & then stand behind the door to close it. The toilet was terrible as it just dumped the water upon flushing, which splashed toilet water back at you on occasion. The major issue I took with room though was it is cramped in the far corner of the hotel next to a utility closet. Apparently they do a lot of work out of that closet during the night. Because on at least 2 occasions in the middle of the night I thought someone was trying to break in our room only to find out it was an employee being noisy in the closet. We ate breakfast the next morning, which they charge extra to your room whether you want breakfast or not. While it was good, I can’t say it was worth the $20 extra per person, especially when we only had 2 small kids. We went at 9:15 & it was not a long wait. The staff there were very nice. Overall, I didn’t even know Riu Hotels of this quality existed. We stayed in other hotels around the world that were luxurious. But then again we only paid $287 for the night, so you get what you pay for I guess. The best thing about this hotel was it’s proximity to sites around it. Pier 39 is a 6 min walk, the Ferris wheel is 4 min, along with the Bay Cruise boats.Show More

Nice warm welcome from Reception who checked us in promptly and took payment of the resort fees. We were given a couple of bottles of water and our key cards and directed to the lift so that we could go to our room. Room was nice, clean and comfortable. It was well serviced by the room maid during our stay. Coffee was replenished daily as were clean towels. We had a bath / shower combo. Water pressure wasn't very powerful but there was always hot water when we ran the shower. The handbasin sink only had a trickle but again was ample to fill a cup to clean your teeth. We were on the second floor and had a small balcony which had a street view. During the late night / early morning cars would race up and down the street. Surprised there wasn't an accident. We lay in bed waiting for a bang. Breakfast was plentiful and self service. Lots of choice. We never went hungry. We didn't have to wait in line too long before a table for two came empty. One day they sat us outside of the main restaurant area on the deck opposite. Whilst this area isn't as busy with people walking around, it was a nightmare trying to come out of the dining room with hot drinks, across the corridor and up the steps back to the table. However no one wore my cup of tea I don't know. We were offered this area again the next day but politely said we would wait for a table to come free in the main restaurant, which although busy was just easier. Staff were friendly and cleared tables quickly. Food constantly replenished. We are early risers so when we went for breakfast it was around 7.15 am. Later it certainly got busy especially at the week-end - however fleet week was on and so maybe additional tourists staying at the hotel. We used the bar one evening and had a beer flight of craft ales which was nice. Outside there are a number of chairs / sofa's with a gas fire which was lovely and cost for a evening drink. However these got taken quite early. We used the Grab and Go shop facility on a couple of occasions for a sandwich at the end of full day out and also a couple of bottles of beer. There's a 7/11 and a Trader Joe's within walking distance. Check out was easy. Luggage storage is available for arrival / departures. We dropped our key cards in a quick check out box. We looked at the pool on site but didn't use it. There were sunbeds around the pool and pool towels available. Show More

Stayed here for four nights. By far the best 2 things about it were the location - about 1 block from Pier 39 & Fisherman's Wharf area and the breakfast. So the positives... Really quick and easy to...Stayed here for four nights. By far the best 2 things about it were the location - about 1 block from Pier 39 & Fisherman's Wharf area and the breakfast. So the positives... Really quick and easy to get to Pier 39, felt very safe walking around in the evening. There were 2 streetcar stops within a 2 minute walk, the bus tours was about 3 mins away and there was plenty of room to grab an Uber or even a Waymo. The public areas of the hotel were smart, clean and modern...however the bedrooms, and in particular the bathrooms, needed a lot of TLC. Bar staff were friendly and there was a good atmosphere. Could never get a seat near the outdoor fireplaces as they were always taken. Looked at the pool but didn't venture in - not as big as you think! Breakfast was amazing. There was so much choice, including fresh fruits, meats, cakes and bread, cereals, drinks and cooked food. Although we had to queue, it moved quickly and everyone in the restaurant was helpful and friendly. Tables were swiftly cleared and there was no time restrictions to how long you could be in there. The only thing was you couldn't take food/drink out of the restaurant so couldn't have a coffee by the pool etc. Now the negatives... The main let-down for us were the rooms, which were dated. We were on the ground floor, looking onto the road & car park, which was very noisy & made us feel uncomfortable. People were even BBQ-ing outside our window one day! We felt we needed to keep the blinds down all day. The air con was noisy too. The tiny bathroom was quite poor - the door didn't shut (you could see where people had tried & the paint was peeling off!) The sink area was separate but there was just no space. The shower definitely wasn't a rainfall one and looked quite old. I reported an issue with the bathroom light and was told it would be fixed yet, in our time there noting was done about it. Some of the reception staff were not particularly welcoming ...I know we arrived at a particularly busy time with the baseball games but bearing in mind we had travelled over 5000miles to be there a smile would have been nice. We went back to ask for directions and were given a map & information from a lovely lady (sorry can't remember her name) but it was a shame this wasn't done at our initial check-in.Show More

The only fault we had with hotel was that we paid extra for room upgrade advertised as ‘Superior King - Panoramic windows and amazing views’ the first room we were ...We stayed here middle of November. The only fault we had with hotel was that we paid extra for room upgrade advertised as ‘Superior King - Panoramic windows and amazing views’ the first room we were given on the 2nd floor gave us a view of the roof. We went to discuss this with the reception and what was advertised with the upgrade, and were told they can’t always accommodate that, they did offer us another room 3rd floor, which had a view of the pool area, which was slightly better. But we did still feel like we never quite got what was advertised/paid for. The room was clean, bed was extremely comfortable, and everything in the room was in good working order. Housekeeping visited everyday. On check in also, we had to pay a deposit/fees totalling over $500, we did expect to have to pay these, but not that high. But the deposit does get refunded back to your account quickly after check out. Despite those hiccups, The hotel is in a perfect location close to fisherman’s wharf. The hotel was lovely, clean, and breakfast was faultless. Breakfast is very busy, but we found it to be very organised, the staff were great, and we were found a seat, and food constantly refreshed with a great selection to set us up for a full day of sight seeing. We would stay here again, without paying for room upgrade.Show More
