The suite was beautifu...My friend and I stayed at Hotel Scalinata di Spagna during our Italy trip, and splurged on the Panoramic Suite with Balcony and View (room 51). It was worth every penny (euro!). The suite was beautifully decorated, the AC worked perfectly, and the highlight was absolutely the balcony—hands down the best spot to watch the Roman sunset. Being able to step outside and take in the sights and sounds of Rome, then step back inside to complete quiet, felt magical. The room itself had thoughtful touches: a Nespresso machine, a towel warmer in the bathroom, and four bottles of water daily in the mini fridge (two still, two sparkling). It was spotless and full of light, with enormous windows offering views on three sides. Accessing the room felt unique and authentic...unlocking an enormous wooden street door, then taking either stairs or the petite two-person elevator (with a special code). Every staff member we encountered was welcoming and helpful, guiding us through the doors and codes with ease. Breakfast was served in the main building, just a short walk and a flight of stairs away, with a plentiful and delicious spread. We also booked the hotel’s car service to and from the airport. While our arrival transfer was seamless, unfortunately, the return car never showed. The staff tried to help but couldn’t reach the service, and we ended up scrambling for a taxi. When we arrived at FCO, the taxi driver demanded only cash, which we had little of, and made for an even more stressful end to our otherwise wonderful stay. (None of this is really the hotel’s fault, but something to be aware of if booking the car service they use.) Overall, I highly recommend Hotel Scalinata di Spagna. The Panoramic Suite was unforgettable, the staff warm and attentive, and the location unbeatable. I would absolutely stay here again, especially now that I know the ropes!Show More

We loved our stay at Hotel Scalinata Di Spagna! We were a group of three starting our 9 day Mediterranean cruise that had us starting 2 nights in Rome. We were upgraded (out of nowhere) to the BEAUTIF...We loved our stay at Hotel Scalinata Di Spagna! We were a group of three starting our 9 day Mediterranean cruise that had us starting 2 nights in Rome. We were upgraded (out of nowhere) to the BEAUTIFUL room 131 that has it’s on private terrace overlooking Rome. We came back to our room a little early each night to sit on our terrace and have drinks and just enjoy our views. Our bathroom was clean and nice, good size shower. Our room was very large with a comfortable king and the pullout bed was very comfortable as well. AC worked well. The hotel is right next to the Spanish steps and very walkable to Treva Fountain, Parthenon, and several landmarks. We also booked private van transfers from Rome Airport to our hotel, and then private transportation from the hotel to the Port of Civitavecchia - booked via Hotel Scalinata. It was very economical and comfortable traveling via Mercedes Sprinter vans. The owner checked us out on our last day and he was so nice and truly every worker there. If/when we come back to Rome, we will be staying here again and requesting room 131! I’d still stay here even if i didn’t have that beautiful room. Oh, and the breakfast is great. They serve scrambled eggs and bacon in addition to the Italian classic breakfast which is heavy on pastries and sliced deli meats. 1000000/10!!Show More

During my stay, I learned an amusing detail about Italian buildings: the “first floor” actually starts at level 0, not 1 or basement, something that took me by surprise. The elevator system also adds its own quirky charm; instead of selecting the floor number, you must enter a code corresponding to your room. A bit unusual, but undeniably memorable. Breakfast is served in a small yet cozy space, creating an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. The selection is simple but satisfying. The location, meanwhile, is exceptional; right in the heart of one of Rome’s most elite and elegant districts, just steps from the Spanish Steps. Another pleasant highlight is the laundry service, which is impressively fast and even offers express options.
