We arrived just before midnight after a journey through bands of snow and rain that ended a 17 hour day. While my wife and I were bleary eyed the staff assessed our need, helped with our luggage, and before I knew it we were standing inside with all our gear, car parked, and with keys to the room in my hand. Every staff member I met throughout the hotel was friendly, attentive, and eager to help. It even felt authentic, and not everyone has a great day all the time so they were very disciplined to at least carry on like soldiers!
One of the best parts of my stay was spending time at Roses Social, one of the hotel’s signature restaurants. The team there made every morning meal memorable. Josh stood out for being extremely courteous and professional, always checking in with a genuine willingness to make sure everything was perfect. Starr was the true “do everything” err, umm, co-star of the restaurant. She went out of her way to help our group and also made each person feel individually cared for. Michele provided warm, attentive service that added so much to the experience. And Hoon’s work was exceptional, every dish was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious, he elevated surface-simple-sounding dishes to perfection.
The rest of the hotel lived up to the same high standards. My room was spotless, with comfy beds, a Nespresso machine, and impressive views of Lake Ontario. If you looked out, the sky and water was gorgeous, and I, as a geek, kept watching (looking down and rarely hearing) the surface level construction on the shoreline. The housekeeping team made me feel as if I had stepped into the 1950s with their eye for detail. My only minor quibbles fell on the room design, the accessible shower was great, but you had to beware the fact you could easily flood the carpet outside due to the amazing water pressure and need for a small bit more slope on the floor. The kickplate cover on the lower hinge of the bathroom door was loose and had to be replaced by hand as it would pop off. So, yes, I am nitpicking, but I had to find something to complain about or you would think I was a paid reviewer :)
The rooftop pool was amazing. I was lucky enough to swim there alone for two midday hours under a deep blue sky and just enough chill to add a steamy cloud at the water surface. It made me feel like a millionaire, without being excessive enough to make me feel the shame of a billionaire. Show More
