I travel frequently for academic and professional conferences (100+ hotel bookings over the past 10 years), and I can confidently say this was the worst hotel experience I have ever had.
Despite having a confirmed, prepaid reservation, after waiting for almost an hour in the lobby while the front desk “checked the system,” I was told no rooms were available. They handed me a piece of paper and said they had arranged a room for me at their Buckhead location (10+ miles away from Downtown). Exhausted and needing rest before an important conference presentation, I trusted them and took a Lyft (about $50) to the other hotel — only to be told there was no record of any reservation or arrangement, and advised to call their customer service. After being on call with their own customer support for about 2 hours, the security told me that I needed to leave the lobby around 2 a.m.
I ended up without accommodation until nearly 4:00 a.m., after hours of unnecessary stress and wasted time. The next morning, I was late to my conference, missed networking opportunities, and struggled through my presentation after a sleepless night.
Because of this misleading information and completely irresponsible handling, I:
-Missed important parts of my professional conference the next morning, including key networking sessions;
-Was too exhausted to perform at my best during my presentation; and
-Incurred unnecessary transportation and lodging expenses.
To make matters worse, the management never responded to my initial follow-up email for days. When I contacted Hyatt Customer Service, they told me that the hotel falsely marked the case as “resolved,” despite no resolution or compensation being provided.
This entire ordeal was the result of gross mismanagement, lack of accountability, and complete disregard for guest wellbeing. A confirmed and prepaid booking should mean something — guests should not be stranded in the middle of the night because of hotel errors and then ignored afterward.
If you’re considering staying here—don’t. Their lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic responsibility is appalling. Book anywhere else to avoid a similar nightmare.show more
