My room had a nice view of the river and skyline, though it was on a low floor (6). As a Globalist, I expected a better upgrade—especially since the hotel was far from sold out. I’m confident there were better rooms available, and they simply chose not to move me into one. The bigger issue was the smell. The room had a strong chemical-and-cigarette odor—almost like a Vegas casino. I called the front desk immediately, and they said they’d check with a manager about moving me and call back. They never did. So I ended up staying in the same room. Eventually my nose adjusted, but it shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place.
Breakfast was also surprisingly disappointing. I had a single coffee, a chocolate chip cookie, and a cinnamon roll, which totaled $23—yet the Globalist breakfast credit was only $15. If that barely covers the cheapest possible breakfast, then it isn’t truly “free breakfast for Globalist” as promised in the World of Hyatt T&Cs. It came across as unnecessarily stingy.
I also had drinks at the bar. The bartender was clearly skilled—genuinely an expert-level bartender—but the French Martini I ordered was the worst I’ve ever had. To be clear, it was not his fault. The hotel uses a strange local organic pineapple juice that tastes and smells unpleasant. Even the bartender agreed. If the hotel expects people to pay $25 per cocktail, they need to use ingredients that don’t make guests want to gag.
All that said, the hotel itself is still very nice. The rooms are high quality, the staff are friendly, and the riverfront location is excellent. It’s easily ten times better than the Hyatt Regency Houston West, but still not one of the strongest Hyatt Regency properties I’ve stayed at.Show More
