This is a wonderful, 4-star hotel in the heart of the historic center of Madrid. It's very close to the Callao and Opera metro stops and only steps away from the scenic Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor....This is a wonderful, 4-star hotel in the heart of the historic center of Madrid. It's very close to the Callao and Opera metro stops and only steps away from the scenic Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. The room I stayed in was a twin on the 4th floor facing Calle de San Martin. I had a view overlooking a 15th century monastery. It doesn't get much better. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Most importantly, the room was quiet. There are French doors you can open if you wish, to hear the city and let fresh air in, but otherwise, apart from the church bells, I didn't hear much street noise. I paid for breakfast to be included. It's the usual, Continental offerings of pastries, deli meats and cheeses, along with Spanish tortillas and fresh fruit. I was very satisfied. The staff at the hotel are its true asset. Everyone I dealt with was wonderfully friendly and helpful. I speak Spanish, but I did hear other visitors being helped in fluent English. I had a wonderfully relaxing time and would gladly stay at the Palacio San Martin again.Show More
