My company books this hotel regularly due to what has always been a reputation for professionalism and reliable service. Unfortunately, this visit fell well short of expectations. We booked sea view supreme room. Upon check-in, I was informed that my reserved room category was unavailable due to overbooking, and I was downgraded without prior notice. While the receptionist remained polite, I was only offered a drink voucher and late checkout, which did little to address the inconvenience—especially as I needed time to prepare for my presentation. First we weresend to room in buillding 5. The room had view at restaurant roof, it was noise cause it was a bandsinging till late. The hot tube was working iust withboilled water. We asked the reception to be moved in the room showed in pictures(see view) and she agreed to move us second day. We moved in buillding 3. There the room was very dirty.The hottube was not working and we coudnt enioy the viewcause were spiders and ants everywhere.The toiletwas flushing every 30 minutes and was filty .lt wasno shampoo or shower gel. We called againreception and they send us after 50 minutes. Breakfast was poor. We was waiting to get acoffee 16 minutes. Restaurant supevisor was rudeand arogant.Don't recomand this hotel. The following morning, another issue arose when the presentation slides I had emailed to the hotel’s Business Services Printing Desk the previous night were not delivered to the conference room as agreed. As a result, I had to present using an outdated version of my presentation, which reflected poorly in a professional setting. To add to this series of problems, my suit was returned wrinkled and late after being sent for the “2-hour Express Pressing Service.” It arrived over five hours later with a handwritten note saying, “Machine delay – apologies.” This was particularly frustrating as I had a speaking engagement that morning. I understand that errors can happen, but three separate service failures during a single one-night stay is unacceptable for a five-star hotel, especially one that promotes itself as a premium destination for business travellers. I raised the issues during checkout but was told that “management would look into it,” with no follow-up since.Show More

Pros: • Upgrades and elite recognition were excellent — both rooms received really nice upgrades, which made the stay feel special. • The hotel has rich history and charm, giving it a classic, elegant feel. • Pool area is lovely. • Coffee service in the restaurant was great and high quality specially drinks. ☕️ Cons: • The Club Lounge was always busy; the older lounge felt cozier with a better atmosphere. • There were flies around the buffet area in the restaurant, which was a little off-putting during meals. 🪰 • We had to change rooms due to a bad AC, a similar issue we encountered during a previous stay. Overall: InterContinental Melbourne impresses with its elite member recognition, historic charm, and comfortable amenities. While some operational issues and a busy lounge detracted slightly, the hotel remains a strong choice for travelers seeking classic luxury in the heart of Melbourne.Show More

I went ahead and cancelled the booking requesting a reschedule of dates or a refund. I eventually received a reply that it was non refundable. I then proceeded to be bombarded with emails and whatsapp messages from the hotel confirming checkin. I have travelled a great deal and never, anywhere in the world, been charged the full rate for rescheduling or cancelling a booking well in advance at a major hotel. I will be exploring my options under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) and will not be staying with The Intercontinental again. This feels like predatory selling designed for money making. I'm quite sure the room was re-sold and the properly achieved double the rate. Very poor business practice.Show More

The hotel is a lovely converted space that is in a great central location in the city. Pool, spa and gym are great although access to them is up fire stairs from the 9th floor (to the 10th). Pool, spa and gym are great although access to them is up fire stairs from the 9th floor (to the 10th). The rooms were comfy, spacious and the beds really great. BUT shower pressure was pretty average and we didn't have hot water on the first night. and instead of being given another room we had to miss dinner reservations to wait for maintenance to sort 3 times. On check out they wiped our mini-bar charges which were around $20. And while the hotel and rooms are relatively clean, you could tell it wasn't a 10 but more a 7.5. I excepted more when paying $500 per night.Show More
