I am a tough, tough critic and split this past week between a hotel in Central Park South and this Intercontinental, here in mid-town. For reference, I have a stressful job and when I return to my hotel, I want to return to a quiet, "gracious" type of room. I'm not interested in going to hotel bars, etc. This hotel feels like a Four Seasons-adjacent hotel (seriously). My room is HUGE by New York standards. I'm staying in a mid-tier (or maybe even a lower-tier) room. It is quiet, clean, and decorated in soothing colors. The bathroom is excellent: it's large, well-lit, with a makeup mirror I could use as a night-light, with a "toe shelf" that is great for women to use to shave their legs. The products are great - lightly scented but moisturizing. The towels smell like they just came out of the dryer, rather than cleaned in bleach. The linens on the bed are excellent as well. Extremely clean and very soft. My window is clean and I can see out onto the street. The hotel hallways are wide and again, what I would refer to as gracious. They are WELL LIT, as are the hotel rooms. The elevators run quickly and I haven't experienced any wait time. I personally don't care about or expect turn-down service, room service, or anything like that. Those things sort of impinge on my privacy and work, so they are actually bothersome to me. MAYBE if I had to quibble, I would say that I was surprised not to be offered water or that some complimentary water wasn't in the room. But I didn't care. The hotel is large and it is quite busy in the lobby which is also huge. The Registration team manages a lot of ebb and flow and does it with patience and professionalism. I've probably stayed in ten hotels in NYC in 2025 and by far, this is the best one. I almost hate to write this review because I don't want to encourage more people to stay here and ultimately get priced out of this really lovely property. I would say the concerns I expressed before I left were addressed, except for the flooring in the bathroom. The hotel provides a floor mat, but the shower was an accessible shower, and the tile was very slick. So walking out, even with the floor mat that gets soaking wet, there is a slip possibility. At the time of my check in I am assuming there were no other rooms ready on that floor, and I asked for that floor, but there should be a wider in place mat on that floor, or there should be a rubber matt on the floor or provided for someone who has to walk on that floor. (PS the carpet in the room had a couple of bad stains on it that need to be cleaned or the carpet replaced). However, I will also note that the television was also very difficult to navigate, and lastly, I ordered room service one morning and they said there would be no deliveries before 7:15 or so, I was fine with that based on my schedule. I told them I woudl like them to deliver the tray at 7:30am and set my alarm etc. The meal was delivered at 7:05am. That not only set a sour tone for my morning (it woke me up someone knocking at my door that early) and I was not ready for the service at that time. I accepted it of course, but I was rather miffed (eventually, of course, I got over it). The other aspects of the hotel, the bar, the check-in, the event space, etc. were all excellent and the hotel is a rather nice establishment.Show More

There was a mess up at check-in for my party , as I had booked two rooms but that got resolved with some phone calls. We did experience an issue with the TV's in both our rooms and did call for service. The housekeeping staff was excellent and got us everything we needed with such a customer service attitude. As always, the doorman Angel and David were wonderful, I look forward to seeing them on my visits. Both are extremly helpful. Angel especially helped me during both visits and gave us much needed assistance for where we were headed. My visit earlier this month with my daughter he ensured we knew where we were going and how to get there when we walked and made me feel safer navigating without my husband. Room service was prompt and excellent. Some recommendations for improvement would be creamer with room service doesn't have a "lip" on it so it dribbles. Also, the brand of toilet paper and tissue was subpar and would expect a softer experience with the bathroom amenities. During my prior years visits you seemed to have a different brand of soaps and shampoo's which I preferred but I do love the large dispenser's for all of them instead of wrapped in paper. Overall, I will always come back to the Barclay and look forward to my next visit.Show More

That’s where the nice part of this review ends. Room is a decent size, carpets are a mess. Stains everywhere and previous occupants trash still on the floor prompted us to wear shoes at all times. There was enough dust everywhere that my fiancée’s allergies flared, especially when she opened the ice bucket. It was disgusting even after attempts to clean it and they did not provide the plastic bags usually found. Made us wonder how attentive the cleaning crew actually is. Especially since we found mold growing in the disposable cups provided. The staff was very mixed. Some were very good, like Angel. He was extremely personable and full of good ideas for places to eat and visit. Others were not. I ended up having to go to reception in an attempt to exchange the fore mentioned ice bucket since room service was not answering. They said that it wasn’t their department and there was nothing they could do to help. Their suggestion was to use a laundry bag for the ice. Let’s face it. Paying hundreds of dollars a night here and not getting even halfway decent service is a travesty. Try to say something and having staff blow you off saying it’s not their department is laughable. Would I stay here again, definitely not. Would I recommend this place, absolutely not.Show More
