6/10 Mediocre hotel thatโ€™s not anywhere close to the claimed 5 stars
This one-night stay capped off our trip to Japan before flying back to the US, and it was quite disappointing. I booked a Twin Classic River View room using the Chase Free Night certificate plus 23k points โ€” a fairly decent value. Because Iโ€™m Platinum, we were told at check in that we were upgraded to the Twin Classic Bay view room. While I appreciated this, the hotel was not very full, and I saw plenty of better rooms available. After a bit of back-and-forth with the front desk clerk, we got an upgrade to a Premium Twin Bay View mid floor room (12th floor). While this was done grudgingly and without a smile, I appreciated this concession greatly. That is, until we got to the room. It was a big letdown after staying at Conrad Tokyo and Conrad Osaka on this trip and The Okura (and others) on the last trip. I knew it wasnโ€™t going to be the same level given the four circles Trip Advisor, but the pictures on their Website were much more attractive than the reality: โ€” Those pictures that seem to show hardwood floor are actually showing carpet in the hardwood floor pattern. I do actually prefer carpet, but the picture looked much nicer and more modern than the reality. โ€” The room felt much smaller than the 42 sq meters shown on the website. โ€” The furnishings are tired, scratched up and stained, especially the coffee table. โ€” Unlike all the other hotels on our last trip, this one was not spotlessly clean. There were big food crumbs, for example, on the bay window sill. Other issues we had with the room were as follows: โ€” THEY CHARGE FOR NESPRESSO CAPSULES! I really couldnโ€™t believe my eyes, but the minibar menu listed Nespresso capsules for 400 yen each. โ€” The mattresses were clearly quite old and, while they used to be pillow-top, those tops were no longer effective. โ€” By far worst of all issues is that the shower water pressure was pathetic โ€” it was US-hotel level. One of the best things that we found in the other two hotels on this trip and three hotels on the last trip was the amazing water pressure in the showers. I finally learned to appreciate rainfall shower heads as the other hotels (which this one didnโ€™t have) because of the amazing water pressure. โ€” The bathroom was overall small, poorly laid out and with a sink that had almost no countertop space. In addition, unlike the main room, the bathroomโ€™s big window didnโ€™t have a blackout curtain which made the room very bright at night. As you can see, a lot of negatives. The only positives were: (1) The hotel was just as quiet at night as the other Japanese hotels we stayed at, (2) Some of the staff were truly amazingly helpful. One lady went out of her way to walk us from the lobby to the 3rd floor exit from the hotel to the train station (which requires walking through the entire 3rd floor with some twists). Overall, this is not even remotely close to the 5-star hotel it claims to be. Itโ€™s a solid 4-star hotel similar to a typical Marriott / Westin in the US. There are WAY better options for similar amount of money, if youโ€™re paying cash. Iโ€™m very sad this was how we spent our last night there. Shouldโ€™ve just let the free night expire and stay at the Okura or Conrad again.

9/10 Pleasant, very helpful staff, comfortable rooms.
The view of the bay was nice. The rooms are regularly cleaned and checked up on by housekeeping. The concierge was very helpful with recommending restaurants and making bookings, and taxis were always readily available at the entrance.

Great location and views of the harbour from the bedroom. Train station and shopping complex with lots of food close by in addition to a family mart. Large room size for Tokyo standards. Very hot shower. Friendly and helpful staff.

8/10 Great Hotel away from the Maddening Crowd
The location at Tokyo Bay is two subway stops away from the bottom of Ginza, making it great for getting around Tokyo without the noise of other areas at night. Hotel service was excellent, and the rooms were good-sized. There was also a great breakfast buffet.

4/10 Disappointing Stay Marred by Racial Discrimination and Subpar Serviceโ€”Some Good Moments but Not Enough
I was deeply disappointed with my recent stay at Intercontinental Tokyo Bay. While the outdated condition of the hotel was a concern, the most upsetting aspect of my experience was the racial discrimination I encountered. Despite Japan's reputation for exceptional hospitality, I observed several instances where non-Caucasian guests, including myself, were treated with noticeable discomfort and impatience by some staff members. On multiple occasions, staff exhibited frustration and irritation when language barriers arose, even when I used Google Translator to facilitate communication. Despite these efforts, they failed to engage with proper respect and empathy, which was incredibly disheartening. What upset me most was witnessing the stark difference in how local guests were treated compared to international guests. It was evident that locals received far better service, despite the fact that international guests, like myself, often spend significantly more money at the hotel. This blatant inequity in treatment was both shocking and insulting. Adding to my frustration is the fact that we even paid extra for lounge access rooms, expecting a higher level of service and hospitality, but the experience was still incredibly disappointing. The female staffs in the lounge were very attentive, however the discriminating service failed to justify the additional cost. Overall, I spent thousands of dollars on this stay(around $6k USD for 10 days)โ€”far exceeding what one might expect to pay for an average hotel experience. Yet, despite this significant investment, I felt unwelcome and undervalued. It was particularly disappointing to encounter such treatment during the busy holiday season, a time when warmth and accommodation should be prioritized. The bar service further added to the negative experience. The staff appeared disengaged and uninterested, and the atmosphere fell far short of what one would expect from a hotel of this caliber. Enjoying the hotelโ€™s amenities was nearly impossible due to the lackluster service. That said, there were some positives worth mentioning. The location of the hotel proved convenient, with the nearby monorail station and a convenience store making transportation and small errands easy. Additionally, the concierge team was truly exceptional, offering assistance with genuine care and professionalism. Another standout was the tall, older doorman, who was an absolute gentleman with his service. His warm and attentive demeanor made every interaction pleasant, and his dedication to guests stood out as a shining example of excellent hospitality. Even with recent renovations, the hotel still felt outdated and failed to meet the high standards its price point suggests. However, it is the racial discrimination, poor communication, and subpar service that have left the most lasting negative impression. This experience has profoundly affected my view of both the hotel and Japan as a destination. Moving forward, I will choose to spend my money in places where my business is genuinely valued, and where I am treated with the respect and dignity I deserve.

Had an amazing stay at this hotel - can't fault anything. Located is excellent for access around Tokyo - tube just around corner, or main next work tube trains 10 minutes walk away (also access to Haneda monorail) Staff are extremely welcoming. Rooms are well equipped with very comfortable beds, TV, fridge, kettle & mini bar. Bathroom had toiletries, bath & separate shower. Although not cheap, I would advise if you can to upgrade rooms to the bay view - great to watch the boat traffic & Rainbow bridge. Breakfast had an amazing choice of hot & cold food. There is a lobby lounge, bar & restaurant, fitness room. Easy access to the waterfront footpaths. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & the excellent service & facilities of the hotel

Stayed for 3 nights. Outstanding experience - the room, F&B, and overall service. In particular, the food and service at Nagomi Lounge was exceptional - many thanks to Sumirie and Hoyoung who are a credit to the hotel. We will certainly return in July 25 when we next visit Tokyo!

First time in Japan and what an excellent stay it was. Fantastic views across Tokyo Bay and the Rainbow Bridge. Use of Club lounge was good for a more personalised touch including champagne and delicious High Teas. Staff were incredible. They were very courteous, polite, respectful and eager to please. We were allowed an early check in and late checkout. All the staff went above and beyond. A massive thank you to all of them for making our first time in Tokyo so enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Quiet area but close to eateries and train and subways stations. They also provide a shuttle bus to the nearest station Hamamasutcho which saves walking 15 mins. There is a bus to take you back on a schedule of course.
