The views are amazing and on a clear day you cannot only see the Bali Sea but across the...This is a wonderful hotel, or nature retreat. Set on a high in the Munduk area of northern Bali, it has it all. The views are amazing and on a clear day you cannot only see the Bali Sea but across the west to the mountains of east Java. The two infinity swimming pools near the two restaurants are a big drawcard with guests; you just can't stop taking photos of them, while some villas have their own private pools (totally secluded) which are large enough to do a few laps. The decor is 'stylishly rustic' with earthy and autumnal tones, with many natural materials - such a bamboo and rattan, used in the construction. Food is first-class; I loved all the dishes I tried and they are so beautifully presented. The staff are courteous and friendly, and when you ring for a buggy to take you to the restaurant or to the reception area (which are accessed via up and down pathways), they are there in a flash and always with a smile. If you don't feel like dining out, but would rather linger in your villa, then room service is available, which includes all the items on the menu. The retreat is lapped by a coffee plantation where they grow Arabica and Robusta coffee trees and roast the beans in the onsite roastery. It's fun to take a coffee plantation tour to see how coffee is grown and made, and enjoy tasting several different styles of coffee at the end. The rather famous Coffee Luwak is also for sale, and the beans for this 'curious' blend come from local coffee farmers and is sourced naturally. One thing that really impressed me was the retreat's excellent environmental and sustainable practices and the work the staff does with the local villages to inform them about plastic recycling. The stay at Munduk Moding Plantation is a wonderful experience - everything from the view, the suites and villas, the food and the people was great. There are cooking classes, yoga, spa treatments and lessons in Balinese handicrafts. If you want to explore further afield, then staff will drive you to Lake Tamblingan and a variety of waterfalls (the Twin Falls are lovely and you can swim there), or escort you on trekking trips, while the five resident horses take guests for rides in the nearby villages. At night, the place to be is the bar, or in the pool, to witness the splendid sunsets, and get up early to catch the sunrise and views across to Java. Munduk Moding (which means hill and high view - I think) is a must for anyone who loves nature and wants a peaceful holiday. I would recommend a few nights here, combined with a beach holiday, and visits to temples in nearby Bedegul for a total Bali experience.Show More

When the weather cleared, the views were incredible — sweeping across the resort’s coffee plantation and all the way out to the Java Sea. The food was consistently excellent. They offer Balinese dishes as well as Western options, and the staff always checked on dietary needs. Everyone spoke very good English, and all of our orders (and we ate on-site a lot) were correct, which says a lot about how attentive the team is. Because it was low season, we upgraded to the Presidential Suite by paying the nightly difference. The suite is huge: two bedrooms, a private infinity pool, and a beautiful deck overlooking the mountains. It was more than enough space for the two of us and would easily fit a family. The overall vibe was quiet, calm, and exactly what we were hoping for. The resort didn’t feel crowded at all, and even the occasional rooster added to the sense of being tucked away in nature. The drive from Denpasar took around three hours with some winding mountain roads, but once you arrive, it really does feel worth the journey. We visited in early December, during rainy season. Mornings were mostly sunny, the rain usually came midday and didn’t last long, and there were surprisingly few mosquitos. We did most activities in the morning — trekking, canoeing on the lake, the coffee plantation tour, the sustainability tour, and a Balinese offering-making class. A special shoutout to Arick, who went out of his way to be helpful the entire time. Ketut was also a wonderful driver, and we enjoyed chatting with him during our drives. The whole staff genuinely seemed invested in making our stay memorable.Show More

The property is breathtaking — beautifully maintained with incredible views in every direction. Every corner of the resort feels intentional and serene, surrounded by lush gardens, coffee trees, and mountain mist. Our butler, Leo, made our stay exceptional. He was so kind, responsive, and genuinely cared about making everything perfect for us. From arranging meals to preparing our villa and handling small details we didn’t even think of, Leo took care of everything seamlessly. Our villa with a private pool and spa was stunning — modern yet cozy, with panoramic views of the hills and distant coastline. It was incredibly private and peaceful. We also visited the spa, which was another highlight. The setting was beautiful and relaxing, and the bamboo massage was one of the best treatments we’ve ever had. We loved that the resort offered so many activities — from tours and horseback riding to coffee roasting and yoga. We didn’t have time to do many, but they all looked fun and thoughtfully organized. The fire pits, pools, and overall hospitality were outstanding and added such a warm touch to our evenings. The food was excellent — truly some of the best we had anywhere in Bali. Every meal felt fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Looking back, we wish we had spent more time here and less in Ubud. Munduk Moding Plantation is the perfect combination of nature, comfort, and luxury — an unforgettable place that feels both secluded and welcoming. We can’t wait to return someday. The attention to detail throughout the entire resort is noticeable, and the staff are wonderful: warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. The views are absolutely breathtaking, and the food was excellent. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a peaceful and luxurious escape. There are a few things worth keeping in mind , not negatives, just helpful notes. The resort has two stunning infinity pools, but they are not heated. Since this area can feel a bit cool, the pool water temperature is noticeably colder compared to other parts of Bali. If you prefer warmer water, this may matter to you. That said, they do have very nice jacuzzis, which are a great alternative. The hotel offers some enjoyable activities, but most are within the resort itself. If you’re interested in hiking or visiting waterfalls outside the property, you will likely need to arrange this in advance through the hotel or have your own transportation (car or motorbike). I personally didn’t feel the need to leave , the hotel is so beautiful that I simply wanted to stay, relax, and enjoy every moment there. I strongly recommend choosing a room with a mountain and valley view. Not all rooms have this, and it truly makes a difference. I’m so glad I selected a room with this stunning natural view , it was absolutely worth it and elevated the entire experience.Show More
