They booked us as a “group” and at check in we knew how this was going to go… He’s Ambassador status & Lifetime Exec. Platinum (25+ years) w/Marriott, so normally that gets us an upgrade 100% of the time. At check in they informed us we don’t qualify because of the group discount. Now I understand that in theory, but don’t you think it’s good business once you see his status, to tell us that then followed up with a “but” we will still honor your upgrade. Anyways… So our standard room was ready then (12n), high floor. The room- I’d say it’s great for a business traveler, a single man, maybe a woman who doesn’t pack allot, but for a couple it was tight for closet space. I can’t even imagine more than 2 people in this room. There was no couch, no bottled water, no clock, no glassware for brushing your teeth or a coke, no pen or paper, no extra blanket, no mini refrigerator, it was a stripped down room. The positive about the room- the bed was semi-comfy, the TV worked easily, good amount of lighting, yes the bathroom is very small and needs updating BUT the lighting to do my makeup was excellent! The shower water pressure was good. The towels were crappy quality but… I got to meet our maid (Maggy) and she was excellent. I asked her for extra towels and nicer ones (and I tipped her WELL each day) and she provided the best towels on her cart, 5 full sets, she cleaned very well, changed our bedsheets daily, checked in after she cleaned to confirm all was okay, and she informed me she’d be off our last day and she’d pass along how I like things to the new maid. So… she went over and above and I made sure to tell the front desk manager that she was a stand out employee. Frankly she cleaned better for the same tip I always give regardless of the hotel. The fitness center was basic. There are a lot of restaurants which is great, however all but the steakhouse (delish) and the Italian, were budget type restaurants like pizza, burgers, deli (they should have GF bread as an option), the sports bar (extremely loud), Mexican, Wingstop, candy store, Auntie Ann pretzel, etc, maybe 12 places to eat like this, so lots of choices for “fast” type food, which isn’t our taste. A positive is the hotel and casino wasn’t too smokey! It is a good location. If you looking for a budget-midrange hotel and don’t mind basic rooms then it’s probably a good choice. There is a Starbucks in the lobby. All of the employees we encountered were friendly. I felt safe walking around the hotel by myself, so that was a huge plus. We saw Mad Apple and it was very good (I did a separate review), actually exceeded our expectations. Gallagher’s Steakhouse was delicious. Taking a car service to/from the hotel/airport was easy, you don’t have to walk clear thru the casino w/your bags. 1 of the 2 elevators in the Empire Tower was broke the 4 days we were here, so it took a long time to get an elevator, wasn’t a problem for us as we were never in a hurry. Personally, we won’t return but we wouldn’t poo-poo the hotel either.Show More

I was going to stay away from writing a very negative review but the hotel forwarded the link after I completed the hotel survey. We were without water one evening from midnight until sometime before 5 am. We were not notified by hotel staff that this was a planned outage but we did hear about it from another couple. We survived the overnight water outage because we did prepare by filling the bathtub with water so we could flush the toilet. Then the water was shutoff again as we were preparing to checkout at around 10:30 am which the hotel staff claimed was an emergency shutoff. Hotel staff just never seemed to think that having a room without water was a problem. We also could not access our hotel room safe and it took over 3 hours to get someone to replace the battery so we could enter our access code to open it. I want to be clear that the issue was not that we forgot our access code is was that the battery died on the safe. I can't tell you how many times we were told it would be about 20 minutes before the hotel could get someone to our room. We waited about 30 minutes before calling the front desk again each time to check the status of our issue and basically we were told to wait another 20 minutes. The only bright spot was the young man from engineering who finally arrived to replace the battery, he was very apologetic and refused a tip. I couldn't help during this whole process feeling that this was something that the hotel staff had no idea how to solve. A number of time during the conversations personally with staff at the front desk and during our phone calls we were offered compensation for our inconvenience, yet when we checked our folio on checkout there just wasn't much of any compensation and I am still not sure what our final stay total will be. The most discouraging part of our stay was that in discussing our issues with a hotel manager, her kept referring our claims to being offered compensation as hearsay. Which I can't help but take as saying we were lying which I don't appreciate. I would recommend when guests have issues and believe they are being offered some compensation for a severely disrupted stay that they should get the compensation added to their hotel account and immediately ask for a copy of the folie to be printed and delivered. We wish we had done that. Again, I want to point out that I am completing this review because after completing the hotel survey and sharing with them my negative comments they directed me to write this review. I appreciate them being transparent with what happened to us, but I wish our stay at New York New York had been positive.Show More

The hotel is located at the north end of the strip with easy access bridges to MGM GRAND and Excalibur. From Excalibur, there's a free convenient tram that takes you back and forth to Luxor and Mandalay Bay until Midnight. You can also walk to Park MGM next door and catch another free tram to Crystal Shops, Aria and Bellagio/The Cosmopolitan. The rooms were stylish and clean but the bed was too worn out. I sunk in and felt tilted when laying down. Room 2661 in New Yorker tower was a bit noisy because it was facing the Arena at the back of the hotel. You could hear the music and the game horns so I would not recommend staying here when there's events going on. The rooms do not come with a mini fridge which was a bummer if we had leftovers. The America Diner was an affordable restaurant option that's open 24 hrs in the hotel. Their corned beef hash was the best we ever had. They also had a nice selection of donuts. The staff was very friendly. We also had a nice Porterhouse steak at Gallaghers. Must make reservations but we were fine with eating at the bar. The Pizza shop is also conveniently open late every night if you need a quick bite to eat. We also paid for daily parking which was convenient for $20 per day. You can go in and out throughout the day/night as well as park at all the MGM properties using the same parking pass We are disappointed because my husband left his jacket in the the room and we tried to contact the hotel a few hours after we left but the jacket was not turned in. I left a few messages and filled out a lost and found report. I really wish housekeeping would do the right thing and turn it in immediately and that the hotel would be proactive and contact the guest who recently checked out immediately instead of waiting for people to inquire and go thru the process of filling out a lost & found ticket and hope to find a matching item for each ticket.Show More

Unfortunately, the day we left, it was chaotic and I left my phone behind. They found the phone, which I am grateful for. However: On Tuesday, December 2, I paid $90 through Chargerback to have my lost item “rushed” back to me. On Wednesday, December 3, the Lost and Found did not ship it. On Thursday, December 4, the Lost and Found did not ship it. On Friday, December 5, the Lost and Found did not ship it. On Saturday, December 6, I called The Lost and Found. The gentleman working told me he was looking right at my phone. I asked if he could ship it, and he said he would send it that day. On Sunday, December 7, I still had not received a tracking number. I called again. The woman there said it was still in the Lost and Found and assured me should personally ship it the next day. On Monday evening, December 8, I still had not received a tracking number. I called again. I was told that the person in the daytime had not shipped it as promised. I asked the worker why she hadn’t shipped it now that she was working, and she replied that she only had been there two hours. It was then I wrote Chargerback and asked them to intervene. Only after Chargerback contacted NYNY did I get any kind of positive response from Lost and Found. Meanwhile, I could get into my work account using 2FA without calling IT every day like a weirdo, among other issues. Which I kept telling Lost and Found when I pleaded with them to send my phone back all week. Finally, on Wednesday, December 10, I now have a tracking number for my phone which will arrive 10 full days after it was left at New York New York. My advice is make SURE you don't leave anything at NYNY because you will not see it again for a long time.Show More
