We selected a NH hotel Santa Stefano for our five days in Torino as I've come to regard the hotel chain to be a dependable choice in unfamiliar cities. What was a routine choice, however, became a most memorable experience. Days before our arrival we received a welcoming email from Fredrica, the hotel Guest Relations manager; a nicety that quickly passed from my attention. But when we arrived to check-in there was a clear distinction to our usual experience. So often inflated promotions and promises are made by organizations only to become neglected background noise - Not this time. After a clean, brief and effortless check-in we were shown to a surprisingly lovely suit with a lovely chocolate cake, chilled sparkling wine, a hand written welcome note arranged with perfect presentation. The next morning I was unexpectedly greeted by Fredrica in the lobby who had taken the initiative to personally welcome me. She had noted on my registration documents that the stay coincided with my birthday; it was Fredrica who made our stay special. Her kindness and professional attention continued each day of our stay from concierge assistance to friendly greetings. It did not end with her; we found the morning breakfast personal remarkably pleasant and attentive. I must add it was one of the best breakfasts of our travels. The staff quickly came to know and anticipate our preferences ... peach greek yogurt and hot chocolate for me. They were genuinely kind - so unusual in these times. Each day the hotel staff in some manner distinguished themselves, it was remarkable. It turned out that the hotel experience was the memorable high point of our stay in Torino and the experience at Santa Stefano exceeded my expectation ... for me this was a first time event.
