We opted for a three night stay at The Rydges and were very happy with our choice. Wonderfully located near theatres and China Town, its ideal location for everything. We had a huge corner, king sized...We opted for a three night stay at The Rydges and were very happy with our choice. Wonderfully located near theatres and China Town, its ideal location for everything. We had a huge corner, king sized room. Large, tasteful bathroom and a big bath as well. It’ s only a short walk to catch the free, inner city tram, ideal to get your bearings. When “downtown” be sure to visit the stylish Block and Royal arcades. We had a truly exceptional Chinese meal at The Bamboo Garden, the food and the service were some of the best I’ve experienced, just 50 metres from the hotel , on little Bourke street.( I’d certainly book in advance as it is busy) Behind the hotel the streets lead up to The Parliament building (where you get the tram from- just check what times they start and allow them time to get to your stop!) and the Treasury building ( free entry to see where all their gold was stored) However, the real hidden gem for us was a visit to The Conservatory building, in the park behind The Treasury, where the plants and flowers were truly exquisite. We also visited the Melbourne Botanical gardens which were extensive and beautiful. While here, my wife took advantage of a visit to Phillip Island to see the penguins. She thought this was a magical experience! The only downside was the parking. Unless you’re already a car park member( which can give you a 20% discount) parking isn’t hard , just expensive. We tried one day elsewhere, but they charge you for exits and re-entries so we relented and paid the $60 per night fee at the hotel .This did allow us to come and go as we pleased. To summarise, there are very few negatives here, and if we return we would probably stay here again.Show More

The staff were super helpful on check in and made us feel instantly welcome. The room was comfortable and the bed perfect. We didn’t book breakfast but ended up dining there all three mornings of our stay. Buffett style but fresh and varied with tasty options. Definitely try the glazed bacon! Location wise was perfect for us. A short walk down into Melbourne City through china town where we had a great meal. Also managed to book tickets for the MJ musical across the road at her majesty’s theatre which was an unexpected bonus of the trip! Will be back.Show More
