We had chosen to include breakfast, and it was absolutely delightful. The in-house public onsen bath added a special touch of relaxation to our stay. It’s an experience we’ll never forget. Contrary to what I was led to believe, the multi-course kaiseki dinner was not included in the booking. In fact, no one ever asked if I wanted to include it. Had I known, I absolutely would have added it, as the kaiseki dinner is often considered the highlight of the Ryokan experience—especially since I paid nearly $1,400 USD for the stay. While all the staff were extremely kind and courteous, the overall experience didn’t justify the price. Aside from the traditional Japanese breakfast and the old-style public bath, there wasn’t much to set this apart from other hotels I’ve stayed in—many of which offered similar amenities, including Japanese robes (yukata), at a much more reasonable price.
