The hotel itself would have been spectacular when first built, whilst a little dated now in terms...We stayed 1 night at the Sofitel on Collins Melbourne, in late September and loved every moment of it. The hotel itself would have been spectacular when first built, whilst a little dated now in terms of the design and architecture, in my opinion it was still very grand and had a very classic lux feel. Our check-in went very smoothly and we were allocated a room on the 48th floor. The views of Port Phillip Bay were stunning but I can imagine that a non bay view room would have been almost as impressive. The room features were all as one would expect staying at a Sofitel property, the bed was very comfortable, including a pillow menu and evening turndown service. Unfortunately we missed out on a reservation at the Level 35 restaurant, so booking early is a must! We did have a drink and some snacks at the hotel bar which was lovely and had a nice atmosphere. And below the hotel is a small shopping centre with some reasonable takeaway options for something quick to go. We ate breakfast at the hotel buffet, it was a Sunday morning, and appeared to be very busy. The tables were quite close together which made it difficult to navigate carrying food back to the table. I wasn’t as impressed with the buffet options as I have been at other Sofitel properties but it had a decent selection of hot and cold options including juices, pastries and eggs made to order. In terms of location, this hotel is great for theatre shows and good restaurants although accessing other pockets of the Melbourne CBD is easy on foot or by train/tram. There are parking options either adjacent to the building or close by and the closest station, Parliament Station, was only a 2 minute walk. This hotel is a great option for a Melbourne city stay regardless of occasion. I hope to return again soon!Show More

While the room service and general staff efforts were satisfactory, the overall operational and managerial execution was severely lacking, which is particularly frustrating given the high standards I associate with this luxury brand. My frustration is rooted in two significant, recurring issues. Firstly, a previous attempt to book here was cancelled without any prior notification or explanation to me, an unacceptable failure in basic customer communication that should have been a red flag. Compounding this, my most recent stay suffered a basic but critical billing error. The attached documentation clearly confirmed the "Bed and Breakfast" rate for my booking, yet the final invoice failed to honor this commitment, requiring me to spend time chasing a correction. To face an uncommunicated cancellation followed by a fundamental billing discrepancy clearly indicates that the attention to detail in the booking and administrative process is critically flawed. The cumulative effect of these failures has genuinely eroded my confidence in the hotel's ability to deliver the reliable, seamless experience one expects at this price point. I sincerely hope management addresses these operational shortcomings, as the current level of service is simply not reflective of the excellence the Sofitel name implies.Show More

I booked with Booking.com and requested for a tax invoice when I booked. When I arrived the reception refused to provide me with one saying I paid directly to Booking.com I sent 6 messages to the hotel requesting for a tax invoice and no one replied . All I got was an automated response. It’s as if no one works there. On my last day and only after complaining and threatening to give 1 star Google review that the reception provided me with one. Seriously why must this be so hard? If I paid through Booking.com, ultimately the hotel gets paid. It took the receptionist one flick of a button and tax invoice was done. It was done after I showed her the unanswered messages. Apart from a nice stay, the stress of dealing with front office staff, automated response from admin team just for a simple tax invoice would suggest that from a personal perspective Sofitel Melbourne cannot be recommended as a business stay. Nice hotel, nice rooms and perfect location but absolutely terrible experience with front office staff and management. 6 unanswered messages is way beyond acceptable “5 star” hotel practice.Show More

We mentioned that we were also celebrating our wedding anniversary of 28years during our stay, and found a surprise bottle of champagne on ice waiting in our room which was very thoughtful and made us feel extra special! There are also some wonderful restaurants close by and accessible within the free tram zone which we made the most of. While I had stayed at the hotel a few years ago, this was my husbands first visit and I think he will be very easily persuaded to stay again.Show More
