Their staff a...From the moment I walked into this hotel I was impressed. There are very few luxury hotels who get their service right: that perfect mix of friendliness and courtesy. The Sofitel does. Their staff are a delight: dropping a bag, check in, check out: I felt very much like a welcome and valued guest. The hotel was immaculate and obviously very well cared for. It was about a 20 minute drive from the airport. It also nails the 'moody elegant European" vibe that some hotels struggle with: some of them end up dark and badly lit - but the Sofitel got it right. You could be in any country in Europe, it's very well done. The rooms are big enough to relax, and my room had a shower over a very deep bath - lovely. Everything worked perfectly, and I loved the sensor lights under the bedside tables, particularly because I had drawn the block out curtains. The bathroom was immaculate, and the towels and bed linen had that lovely very faint smell of bleach, so faint it's barely there, but enough to be reassured that everything was super clean. I didn't use the mini bar or the coffee, but there was a pod machine and two (good) bottles of gin plus normal mini bar delights. There is a makeup mirror - a really good one - and ample lighting in the bathroom (see earlier comments about moody decor). There is also plenty of room to hang up dresses/clothes. I've saved the best till last - the bed. The lady at check in told me they have the best beds and she absolutely was not exaggerating. Soft but not squishy, and just so comfortable - one of those beds when you feel like you are just supported but can't really feel anything. And a proper duvet/doona and a ton of pillows. I was very happy. We had a function at the hotel and the food was brilliant as well. All in all, I'm sad I only stayed one night: I'd love to spend a week there. The concierges were extremely ...My wife and I were in Sydney, never having been in Australia and/or NZ. It was a bit confusing on buses/trams, figuring out how to get from one attraction to another. The concierges were extremely helpful, drawing out diagrams on the maps provided us, and showing how to get from one place to another, as well as recommending various sights to see. We needed their assistance several times, and they were very patient with us. Although all of them were extremely helpful, one person, Raul, in particular was helpful on several occasions, and a bit humorous at the same time. Location is Excellent, in the middle of 'town', with plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Room: No dresser to put clothes away, nor any near bedside. Shower faucets could be better, allowing the setting to retain the proper mixture if shutting faucet off, rather than start from 'scratch' each time. Shower could also use a floor mat to prevent possible slippage, but easily remedied with a towel. Room was very clean, TV had a directory showing what shows available at what time. Overall, I have no hesitations in recommending this hotel. Breakfast was the usual fare that most hotels have, though food was excellent. However - one very pleasant surprise was the inclusion of some Chinese items, such as Har Gow (Shrimp dumplings) and Congee - very good!Show More

It did not start well. We were unable to use the self check-in kiosks for our booking and frankly, being met by kiosks was rather impersonal for a supposedly brand name hotel. It did not get any better. There was a queue for check in and water and champagne offered to guests in the queue. No one approached us to explain this even though staff did approach other guests. I actually had thought the drinks were for hotel event guests at first. The room we were allocated had a Juliette balcony which was nice but the room itself was small and lighting was poor. Nothing special. We did have a nice drink at the bar situated at the front of the hotel. All the lounge seats were taken so it was just the two of us on a massive tiled communal table with bar stools. Odd design. Nice bar staff and service. We had bought buffet breakfast which was a huge mistake. They just didn’t have enough food or staff to cater for the number of guests on the long weekend. We queued for a table and then when we tried to order eggs, we were told it would be a 40min wait. They ran out of many items during breakfast that were no promptly replaced. Eg. Smoked salmon. The whole set up with narrow passageways behind buffet made for a chaotic scramble. I won’t be repeating this stay again- at least not in any holiday period.Show More

Having said that they have marble finishes and...This iconic hotel was Sydney’s first 5 star hotel and recently refurbished. The rooms are well appointed and refurbished though the bathrooms have not. Having said that they have marble finishes and very charming. My only gripe is that there are separate hit and water taps rather than an all in one I still rate the Sofitel beds and furnishings as probably the best of any hotel I’ve stayed in. The lobby areas are very tasteful but the highlight is level 5 where the club lounge, Wentworth Bat and Delta Rue are located. The conversion of the previous bare outdoor area to to a semi covered bar area is a brilliant move. Plenty of comfortable seating, stylish and atmospheric. Dined at Delta Rue, which we have done previously and was simply beautiful. Service attentive and the food (a mix of Vietnamese/French was divine. The lamb curry amazing. The hotel is centrally located and still holds an air of elegance and history. Service across the board was great and the bar and dining excellent- especially for a hotel Have been here many times in the past and previously thought it was overdue for a refurb and now what they have done has made me keen to come againShow More
