I have stayed at Sutton a few times over the years for work so it felt like a nice gesture, upon checking in, to be told I had been upgraded to a one bedroom suite. That said, after she started point...I have stayed at Sutton a few times over the years for work so it felt like a nice gesture, upon checking in, to be told I had been upgraded to a one bedroom suite. That said, after she started pointing out where things were I realized that wasn't the case. Once I entered the room, it was a disappointment. It was a one bedroom suite on the first floor with a seperate kitchen, living room and a stale odour throughout. It was dark and dingy with dirty ceilings. I know the hotel was renovated a few years ago but it appears the left wing was not. The room had holes in the closet, and being on the first floor it was noisy and not ideal for a solo business traveler. In addition, the patio door could not be closed which posed a safety concern for me. I immediately requested to change rooms. It was also late in the evening which meant the convenience store and eateries around were closed, which added to my disappointment. As a business traveler (very clear as the room was booked through a company) , there should have been more thought process in placing me in a suite meant for folks with families; it was not ideal to be placed there. My new room on the 11th floor was fine, minnus the stain on the mattress. There for two days, what do you do? Just bear up and review. I went to take a swim at the highly touted pool and found the water cloudy. When asked how my stay was upon checking out. I did state it wasn't great. Clearly it wasn't a concern as she didn't follow up to ask why/what as I would certainly share the yellow stained mattress picture. Maybe I am a little spoiled by previous stays at the lovely boutique hotels Opus and Loedon, which are much cleaner and the staff more attentive. Pictures are attached to attest. Show More

I really wanted to like the Sutton Place in Vancouver. My travel agent recommended it. It didn’t start well when the ‘greeting’ at the front desk was ‘hi, your last name?’ And it all went downhill pre...I really wanted to like the Sutton Place in Vancouver. My travel agent recommended it. It didn’t start well when the ‘greeting’ at the front desk was ‘hi, your last name?’ And it all went downhill pretty quickly. Pros - Given an early check in at 11am - Spacious room with comfortable bed and nice linens Cons - Dirty room - thick dust on bedside tables, drawer units and on the vanity unit in the bathroom. It looked like those surfaces hadn’t been cleaned for weeks - Stain on one of the bathrobes - Sticky dirty stain on the bathroom door. - Aircon - the room was 24 degrees when I got there although the aircon was on full and set to 18.5 - Worn carpet in the room despite it being advertised as recently refurbished - Chips out of the furniture - Asked for a fridge, which came in 20 minutes. But it didn’t work. It took me five calls, two conversations with the guest services manager and four hours to get my room cleaned, a working fridge, a clean bathrobe and working aircon. And then there was the used room service tray that sat outside the room opposite two days. I wonder how many hotel staff just walked past that. And the rugs in the foyer *of a five star hotel* were frayed and stained and looked horrible. The guest services manager was personable and apologetic, In retrospect, however, he didn’t seem surprised. And I’ve seen another review of the hotel on Tripadvisor that references the same issues of cleanliness. The above issues are not acceptable in a five star hotel. I had just stayed at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto which was excellent in every way so the contrast couldn’t have been greater.Show More

We had requested 2 beds and were told, condescendingly, that we had been upgraded to a suite as there were no twin bedded rooms available, despite our having booked months in advance. Our first impression of the suite was soiled by the awful 'dirty carpet' smell, swiftly followed by the realisation that there was, in fact, only one bed in the bedroom, and a 'put you up' sofa in the living/dining/ kitchen area, which had not been made up. The bell hop said we would find sheets blankets and pillows. We opened the balcony door wide to let in fresh air and requested that something be done about the smell in the room and that the sofa-bed be made up, with a duvet. A carpet spray was brought and the bed made up. My friend insisted I took the bedroom and she spent an extremely uncomfortable night on the sofa bed. We found the public rooms shabby, grubby and outdated, and the public washrooms, despite looking brand, spanking new, were also dirty - especially behind the cubicle doors and within the cubicles themselves. The carpet in the lounge area on front of the concierge desk was disgustingly grubby with many stains and marks, of which I took photographs, and the seating sagging and apparently aging or, at best, well-used. Over all, an egregious experience. I would not recommend.Show More

Queue and waited 15 minutes. Only 2 receptionists, one of whom spent 10 minutes explaining local sights restaurants etc to a customer while nearby concierge desk was unoccupied. Room overall ok though air conditioning difficult to get sorted. No water tank on back of coffee machine! Housekeeping then brought a replacement with exactly the same omission! Third time got sorted . Agree with others re fridge issues. Ice machine room door was locked/ broken - housekeeping said they were aware and getting it sorted. Didn’t happen in our 3 day stay. Pool area cramped and small. Unusable as filled with screaming infants. Reasonable gym. Breakfast buffet selection poor and cooked items lukewarm.. needs to be much better at this cost. Overall ok stay but not exceptional. Not sure it delivers good value at this price point..Show More
