This was our third two-day stay at the Sylvia over 18 years and we always love it. The location can’t be beat - we park the car at the hotel and can easily get around on foot or public transportation....This was our third two-day stay at the Sylvia over 18 years and we always love it. The location can’t be beat - we park the car at the hotel and can easily get around on foot or public transportation. English Bay and all the beach activity is a stone’s throw from the Sylvia and Stanley park is only a few blocks walk. A twenty minute walk along English Bay to catch a water taxi over to wonderful Granville Market for great food and shopping. We were in an eighth floor suite as we wanted separation between the two sleeping areas for the three of us. The suite was very roomy -we learned it once was part of a “Dine in the Sky” restaurant. It had a huge sitting room with table and chairs and a Murphy wall bed. The bedroom was also roomy and there was a separate kitchen area with table and chairs but we didn’t use it as we took short walks along Denman and Robison streets for restaurants and coffee shops. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Our breakfasts were very good and on previous trips we enjoyed cocktails in the lounge overlooking English Bay. It is an older hotel but that is part of its charm. Our only suggestion is for the mattresses to be replaced for both the beds as all three of us had less than great sleeps on them and that is an important item to attend to. That said, the Sylvia still stands as our Vancouver place to stay!Show More

The location...only meters from one of the world's top urban walkways ( The Sea Wall) can't be beat. For decades the hotel has been a favorite haunt of some of Canada's most renowned writers, including Earle Birney and Douglas Coupland, so it it's part of the city's cultural heritage. The staff are professional and attentive to the needs of guests...without being obsequious. The rooms are comfortable and have art deco design features. All the bathrooms are modern. The room service menu has a good variety of choices....including Asian-influenced options...at a reasonable cost. Views over English Bay from the hotel's bar and restaurant are sublime...especially in the late afternoon. Bike rentals for circling Stanley Park are located at a shop only five minutes away on foot. The Sylvia served as the perfect basecamp for my recent visit to the city, and I plan to return in the Spring.Show More

Our latest stay in October 2025 continued to exemplify their excellent tradition of comfort and hospitality. We chose one of the smaller rooms in the hotel, and found it well appointed with a very comfortable bed and full bathroom. While the room had no air-conditioning, it did have windows that opened as well as an excellent view of English Bay. We ordered room service for breakfast one day, and it arrived very promptly and was excellent. Similarly, we had breakfast in the main restaurant and it was likewise very good. Both front desk and room service/restaurant staff were pleasant and helpful. Overall, our stay at the Sylvia Hotel was enjoyable and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is staying in Vancouver and wishes to experience the West End of that city.Show More

I've lost track of the visits to the Sylvia in the last few years, and more than ever I have gone this year. Suffice to say it is my only choice when I travel to Vancouver or am on the way traveling ...I've lost track of the visits to the Sylvia in the last few years, and more than ever I have gone this year. Suffice to say it is my only choice when I travel to Vancouver or am on the way traveling somewhere else and I can break up the trip with a visit to the Sylvia. This last trip I enjoyed multiple meals in the dining room. One night there was jazz and I soaked it up along with the ambience of the Sylvia. The dining room staff are quick, professional and added to the experience because I think they appreciate also what the Sylvia represents as a special heritage location. Meals were delicious, I loved my salmon in the evening and followed it up in the morning with a West Coast Benny - more salmon. I may try to get away for another visit so I see the Sylvia at Christmas.Show More
