No hot water, really noisy, and very disappointing considering the price. Not a good experience. Cannot recommend this hotel, and we will definitely not be staying there again. This hotel tries to sell itself as a luxury hotel, but it is not - and far from it. Stay away.
We stayed 7 nights at Tmark Hotel Vaticano. For more than 5 nights, we had no access to hot water, since their boiler had shut down. We were assured every day that it would be fixed the next day, but that never happened. We therefore had to shower in cold water for five and a half days, and were obviously not able to wash our hands in warm water for the same reason.
When we asked in the reception what we should do, they had no solution, other than saying that it should be fixed the next day. We considered booking in to another hotel, but most hotels were fully booked, and really expensive. They told us the last day that we would be offered a refund if we contacted the hotel after our stay.
We have contacted the hotel, and they have offered us a 20% refund, for more than five days of no hot water. We mean that a 20% refund does not sufficiently cover it, considering the huge impact it had on our vacation, and the price of our stay (more than €2200). October mornings in Rome are cold, and the room was cold, and the water was cold. It was horrible. And after long days of exploring the city, being hot and sweaty and dirty, we had to shower in freezing water again in the evening. And they offer a 20% refund - shameful!
The breakfast was not at all like the pictures online showed. It had the same boring content every morning: hard and dry baguettes, frozen vegetables warmed in a microwave, extremely fatty bacon, ultra processed and tasteless sweets, sweaty cheese and sweaty ham. Yoghurts propped full of sugar, and juices with no taste. Creds for both fried eggs, scrambled eggs, and boiled eggs though. Two of the mornings the breakfast lady had prepared caprese, which was lovely. There were fresh fruits, but they were mushy and tasteless. The coffee machine malfunctioned every day. The nice breakfast lady fixed it every time, and served us the coffee at the table, as a way of an apology. The breakfast could and should be a lot better for a hotel charging more than €300 per night. We don’t blame the breakfast lady, she did her best, we blame the management. The Saturday of our stay, there was a man doing the breakfast instead of the usual breakfast lady, and he didn’t refill anything, or clean the tables. Horrible.
The hotel building, and the rooms, are pleasant to look at. It’s well ventilated. Our room was cleaned every day, and we got new towels every day. So that was a plus. But the showers are designed so that no matter how hard you try, there’s water running all over the floor. The same goes for the bathroom sink, stupid design that makes it spill water all over. The shower head was full of something that looks like mold.
Staff in the reception seemed like they were really bored, and not interested. Only one guy working there, a man with grey hair, smiled and chatted to us. The others didn’t seem to care. When I asked a lady who worked there how she was (because she didn’t start a conversation or say hello unless we started first), she just said «tired.», and that was that.
The noise outside the windows was bad. Both day and night. From about 6 AM it amplifies exponentially by the hour, as queues form outside the Vatican Museums across the street. Ambulances, cars, trolleys, garbage trucks, road cleaning, and huge crowds, dominated the outside. The windows provided little to no insulation. This HAS to be made clear in the hotel information when ordering, both on the hotel webpage, and at the webpages of tour operators and third party providers.
We went up to the rooftop bar one night, but there was no one there, and no one came. Music played and the lights were on, but as I said, no one came.
This hotel could be a gem, but management clearly does many things wrong, probably to save money. They’re trying to be something they’re not, and it shows on every area.Show More
