With stunning forest valley views, amazing staff and the attention to every little detail, our stay was truly exceptional. We booked through Hilton Honors and our Diamond status was fully recognised - thank you! We were upgraded to a beautiful deluxe terrace pool suite which was spacious, luxurious and had an excellent pool which could be heated on request - although this wasn't needed during our stay. We thouroghly enjoyed the food in both restaurants which offer very different dining options. 'Aperitif' provided the best fine dining experience on the island with every dish finely crafted and delicious. 'Cascades' on the other hand was more relaxed with more traditional and beautifully created local food. Both were equally special in their own way and highly recommended!! We enjoyed two social evenings in Pinstripes and Cascades with excellent complementary cocktails and canapes which were delicious, enjoyable and great fun! The location of the hotel is perfect and not too far from the centre of Ubud which although was walkable for us, complementary shuttles are available and we loved chatting to Chess the resort driver - he really has a great sense of humour! The hotel boasts a state of the art gym with a very good selection of equipment and weights, a squash court and even a table tennis table! The amazing spa offered an excellent range of affordable treatments. Special thanks to Lisa our favourite therapist. The peace and tranquility of the hotel was something we appreciated for the five days we were lucky enough to stay here. Special thanks to the GM Patrick for ensuring our stay was so special and the long list of wonderful staff which included Balik, Ngurah, Santi, Hery, Nik, Putu, Sri, Henrda and chef Suandi, along with managers Adhi, Agung, Chef Gerry and of course the great house keeping team. We are so so so so so sad to be leaving the Viceroy and Ubud in general. The view from any point in this outdoor hotel is mesmerizing, especially if you love tropical views. You might even catch monke...We are so so so so so sad to be leaving the Viceroy and Ubud in general. The view from any point in this outdoor hotel is mesmerizing, especially if you love tropical views. You might even catch monkeys fighting in the distant tree tops across the valley. All villas face east with beautiful sunrises and nightime mist/fog if you’re lucky. The staff were the highlight of it all. They truly are so genuine and authentic, easy to talk to, and best of all; light-hearted with an easy-going sense of humor. I can’t name specific employees because they were all so welcoming; everyone from the front desk to the electrician and the bellboys. Turn down service is offered almost twice a day. They come back later in the day with new towels if you need them. Large speakers are provided and are easy to connect to, as well as a Netflix-equipped TV. My two comments on the rooms are: there isn’t a dresser for girls. There is a chair and more than enough room to have a full on dresser, so I’m sure that is an easy fix for the hotel to add. I would suggest either having an outlet in the closet to plug in a hairdryer, or just adding a mirror to the right of the tv, where the chair is tucked into the desk. I had to do my hair in the reflection of the TV LOL! The open concept bathroom is beautifully symmetrical with a bathtub dead center and his and her towels on either side. There is a separate room for the toilet and a separate open shower. Two sinks lie on either side for his and hers. But what’s the best thing about this place? Their tap water is drinkable/filtered😭😭😭😭 (happy tears!) We didn’t have to worry about closing our mouths in the shower or brushing our teeth with bottled water (although plentiful was still provided). Last but not least the bed is massive and the sheets were pristine clean. The spa was a let down, the staff weren’t all that wonderful, and the spa room was semi luxurious. Given that we were staying in one of the most picturesque locations in Ubud, it would have been nice for the room to at least have a window with a view or connect more to the outdoors, like the rest of the hotel. Conclusion: the price was not worth the spa. There is a french restaurant that we didn’t try (Aperitif) and a bar next to it called Pinstripe which is a MUST experience. Moody, luxurious, and the drinks are spectacular. Comes with a price tag to match, but for those who enjoy a cigar lounge feel, it was worth it. The walk-in cigar humidor was also trés cool. If we ever come back to Ubud, we won’t think twice about rebooking at the Viceroy, hands down one of the most wonderful hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Note: do not be deceived by the pictures. Service was good but not exceptional. Some staff were amazing and some spent times just talking to each other. The shuttle to Ubud center was convenient. The bad or, not all bad but not what I'd expect at a luxury hotel: This is on me for not fully understanding the room. But I would NEVER book a Pool Suite again. I did not understand that the bathroom was outside. It is not "semi-outdoor" as listed in the description. It is outdoor. Let me explain: The main room is locked and temperature controlled. Outside that room is a covered patio which has the pool, a bath tub, sinks, a toilet stall (with a door) and a shower (with no door or shower curtain). Now, there were a few blinds that you could pull down for privacy on the patio but you could not make it fully private. I took the quickest showers of my life while staying here. Also, since it wasn't sealed, bugs (and in particular mosquitos) could come in. I was told not to leave items out because monkeys might come in. I saw ants on the wall. Getting a mosquito bite while you went out to use the bathroom one night is not what I planned for this trip. These are what you would expect in an outdoor setting but not in a luxury hotel. It was also not temperature controlled so that meant when you got out of the shower, you were instantly in full Bali temperature and humidity. It also meant if you had to use the bathroom at night, you had to go out in the humidity and heat to do so. Oh and there is a step down from the room to the bathroom. I don't know how I didn't wipe out while making that walk during early mornings or evenings. I felt like I was at summer camp taking my toiletries in and out with me each morning and evening. The room itself was also not well thought out. It was big and there was a lot of unused space. If you have the bathroom outdoors, maybe you should have a vanity or mirror area inside so you can get dressed inside. None of that existed. The seating area was very small. The overall style was just very cold. This hotel just feels like its from a different era, furnishings and style are very cold and the room I had (the Pool Suite) was not well thought out. I booked this hotel based on the reviews so it seems like some people do like this but it is definitely not for me or anyone that I know.Show More

We ...There are many 5 star resorts to choose from on this island but this one has an absolute humdinger of a showstopping setting that you cannot find anywhere in the world and that was why I chose it. We were made to feel like the most important people in the world when we arrived, staff knew how to be attentive and not overbearing. It surpassed expectations from the mist coming in over the trees in the evening to the spectacular sunrises in the morning, you are well placed in this photograph heaven. Food and cocktails in all restaurants were delicious and the staff were keen to ensure that everything was as it should be. I find some 5 star hotels can be very uptight but here the staff were friendly and professional at all times. Other minor things that were useful, buggy service was always prompt, tap water is safe to drink, live music available in the evening - which we loved, breakfast is not a buffet and I adored the menu (top notch!), fantastic wifi that did not cut out constantly (where in the world can you get that now?), heli pad available $1000k transfer to the airport if needed, the best butler/room service I have experienced, spacious rooms and bathrooms and a heated private pool. The spa was another highlight here and again I would recommend a visit. There are social hours on two afternoons and they served the finest cocktails and food in the most breathtaking setting. The hotel was well placed for us to visit many of the temples and this worked out well for us time wise. This hotel is not to be missed and you can see why it won the Conde Nest Best Resort Hotel in the world, simply put this place is spectacular.
