I keep coming back because they combine clever design, comfort, and consistency across the globe. No matter the city, the rooms feel familiar, functional, and thoughtfully laid out. You know what to expect, and that predictability in an unpredictable city like New York is invaluable. CitizenM Times Square continues this tradition, offering a dependable and comfortable stay in the heart of Manhattan.
The Room: Smart, Comfortable, but a Little Noisy
The rooms are compact but efficiently designed. The bed is comfortably oversized, perfect for stretching out after a day exploring the city. Everything else in the room is practical and functional, with intuitive controls for lighting, blinds, and temperature. The layout makes excellent use of space without feeling cramped. My room was clean and well maintained, although the window had a small crack and the blinds showed minor wear.
One thing that stood out was that the rooms were not fully soundproof, which is somewhat surprising given that most citizenM hotels provide very good sound insulation. The hotel itself was a little noisier than usual. Even on the 14th floor, it was possible to hear neighboring rooms and some street noise. This is something to be mindful of, but it is also understandable given the central Manhattan location. Ambient city noise is part of the experience, especially in a busy area like Times Square.
Facilities: Practical with Signs of Age
As one of the older properties in the citizenM portfolio, some areas of the hotel reflect their age. Lounge furniture and seating in public areas show some wear but remain comfortable and usable. The hotel continues to deliver the practical, tech-forward experience that makes citizenM unique, even if a light refresh would be welcome.
The Living Room: A Stunning Hub of Energy
The Living Room, which serves as the hotel lobby, is a real highlight. The space is vibrant and always buzzing with guests, casual meetings, and people working on laptops. Stunning artwork and modern décor create a stylish and welcoming atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to relax, socialize, or soak in the city’s energy.
Breakfast: Simple but Sufficient
I tried breakfast one morning, which I normally skip. It is simple but sufficient, with some hot options, fresh pastries, fruit, and yogurt. It works well for a quick start to the day, though for a more substantial breakfast or brunch, the neighborhood has plenty of cafes, diners, and restaurants offering much more variety.
Rooftop Bar and Social Spaces
The rooftop bar provides incredible city views and is a lively spot to unwind with a drink or watch the sunset over Manhattan. Combined with the Living Room, it adds personality and energy to the hotel, making it feel more like a social hub than a typical business hotel.
Service: Courteous but Limited
The staff were courteous and professional throughout my stay. Most of the check-in and check-out process is handled through self-service kiosks, which is efficient, but the lack of personal acknowledgment at check-out felt like a missed opportunity for a final contact moment. While the staff handled requests promptly and smoothly, a little more personal interaction would enhance the overall experience.
Location: Simply Unbeatable
CitizenM Times Square excels in location. Subway stations are all around, providing easy access to destinations across Manhattan. The E-line offers a direct connection to JFK Airport, which makes arrivals and departures especially convenient. Times Square itself offers shops, restaurants, theaters, and the iconic energy of New York right outside your door.
Final Thoughts: Reliable Comfort and Worthwhile Value
CitizenM Times Square continues to provide the consistent comfort and smart design that makes the brand appealing. The rooms are well-designed and comfortable, the Living Room and rooftop spaces add energy and personality, and the location is unbeatable. While the hotel shows some signs of age, the rooms are not fully soundproof, and pricing can fluctuate, if you can secure a good rate, this property is worth every penny.Show More
