I’ve stayed at this hotel at least five times when it was the Affinia. It has gone so far downhill it’s shocking. Yes if you are a large family and need a lot of room and cram everybody in it’s a good...I’ve stayed at this hotel at least five times when it was the Affinia. It has gone so far downhill it’s shocking. Yes if you are a large family and need a lot of room and cram everybody in it’s a good place for that as it is very spacious compared to other New York properties. If you are a business traveler or anybody that needs a competent room forget about it. The outlets don’t work and there are no hubs to plug in all your stuff, the TV isn’t a smart TV so you can’t even bring your streaming services with you, there are no amenities in the bathroom and if you ask for things they have to scrounge for them, there’s no salt or pepper in the kitchen, which was a given for any hotel that had a kitchenette, and there’s literally nothing except water and soda and chips available at the front desk. If you are a tea drinker, bring your own because they don’t have any in the room and down in the lobby there’s the cheapest Lipton tea, no herbal tea for the evening, they’ve cut corners in every direction. The room is huge, but there’s no desk or chair or any place to do any kind of work. They do have a mini sofa and chair, none of this furniture looks like quality whatsoever.On the plus side, the staff is nice, housekeeping people are lovely and helpful, if you’re on the backside, it’s quiet, if you’re on the front side it’s not, the gym is small but decent, but I’m paying almost $500 a night with tax and for a little bit more I could be staying at a luxury hotel. This place is only worth it if you’re going with a gang and the decor is more like a best western, this hotel chain does not know how to do luxury. so if that’s what you’re after being on the upper east side, you’re not gonna find that. You will find a kitchenette, but it’s a big premium for that and next time easy enough to save a lot of money, I’ll just get Eggs on a roll down the street. I won’t choose to stay here again, even though this has been my go to Hotel for at least 15 years. Sonesta could’ve done better and kept the standards of the old hotel but it’s just not in their DNA.Show More
