The only reason that I'm giving a 2 rating vs. a 1 rating is its location and comfortable beds (if you are able to sleep without barking dogs in the next...Unfortunately, our stay was a disappointment. The only reason that I'm giving a 2 rating vs. a 1 rating is its location and comfortable beds (if you are able to sleep without barking dogs in the next room to you). We checked in at 3 pm after a long trip to the city. We wanted to rest before heading out for the evening. After resting about 30 minutes, my daughter and I were woken up by two barking dogs! At first, we thought they were outside but we were on the 9th floor and they were loud. We spoke to the front desk staff and asked if dogs were allowed at the hotel and the answer was No. I told them about the barking dogs and they said that a tenant lives on the 9th floor with dogs. This confused us...their site says No Pets and we were just told that dogs are not allowed. We then asked what would happen if they barked during the night? They said that they don't bark then. We went to our room...it was approx. 11:30pm. After about 15 mins. in the room, the dogs were barking. We called the front desk and they said they'd call the 'tenant' and apologized. After a bit, they stopped barking. Then, around 12/12:30am we heard the tenant vacuuming their room. A few more barks after that and we finally fell asleep around 1:30am after the vacuuming and dogs stopped barking. When we checked out the next morning, I spoke to the front desk gentleman and he got the manager. The manager said that if there was a probem, I should have reached out to them earlier. I reiterated that I texted more than once, phoned and spoke in person to his staff ... not sure how much more I could have done. He credited me $150 on a total bill that was $465.00. He said that was the best that he could do since this has never happened before and they delivered on their 'promise' of providing us a room. I'm stunned to say the least. The hotel has rules but they don't follow them and they place their guests next door to a situation like this. We had a one day/night getaway and needed to rest in between before traveling the next day. The Lucerne Hotel did not deliver on their promise. Buyer Beware of tenant(s) with barking dogs.Show More

This is our first return since Covid. The Lucerne and the upper west side have lost nothing of its magnificence. It’s relatively small – 12 stories. The staff is friendly and courteous. We had a Suit...This is our first return since Covid. The Lucerne and the upper west side have lost nothing of its magnificence. It’s relatively small – 12 stories. The staff is friendly and courteous. We had a Suite for a week – – only suites have microwaves and fridges. It is relatively reasonably priced for a close to luxury hotel in an absolutely beautiful neighborhood. The neighborhood couldn’t be better – – two blocks to Central Park or the natural history Museum, a block to Broadway, a couple of blocks to a fairway market, etc. A block or two to either the number one red line, or B&C blue line. The cross town bus stops on the corner. Room tips: We try to get a room on the seventh floor or higher, facing towards Amsterdam or 79th St. We like the good light and the active cityscape below. They were extremely full this time and our first room, faced the back of the building and had limited light— stairwells, etc. However, they were willing to move us after the first night and we got a great room. We have been happy as clams here. We also walked up to Central Park and rented a boat for 25 bucks an hour really lovely. Don’t miss the redone Native American section at the Museum of Natural History. It was redone with the collaboration of the tribes of the Pacific Northwest. Educational and moving. A lot better than looking at every seashell ever found in the universe.Show More

Disappointed the old-fashioned room was very dark and dimly-lit, but the worst part was a very strong stench, causing one in our party to have an allergic attack. The clothes that we hung in the closet were infused with the really bad room smell (and noticed by others that we joined for dinner that night), and when we turned on the hairdryer, the same stink came out of it because it was embedded in everything in the room. The room is not conveniently set up for two guests -- no place to open suitcases or unpack them, just one suitcase stand that had to be jammed up next to the bed. The other suitcase had to be left on the floor. The redeeming feature i s the location was good, and cheerful doormen were very nice, but the disinterested reception desk agents phoned it in, and the lobby was dark and depressing. The so-called hotel discount for the very expensive breakfast at Nice Matin next door was refused both times we tried to use it; one time for being 10 minutes after "breakfast time" and the other time refused for 1 minute after "breakfast time" that ends at 10am. Left a bad taste (and smell) for more than $500/night for a small room with a queen bed looking out on a brick wall.Show More
