We had a suite. I really did not relish the idea of spending any time in the room, what with one wide chair for both of us, while the brushed chrome coffee table was decent size. The room just felt confining and boring somehow. I will say, the refrigerator was a wine refrigerator! In addition to having two shelves. It was big! So the hotel is attracting a “club” type clientele (admittedly not us; because we were not interested in the “sex kit” offered by hotel for extra price.) Still, the suite was just kind of non-descript and didn’t even seem that conducive to needing “lubricant.” The lighting was terrible, especially bed side (none, only one recessed light overhead).
Let me tell you my biggest head-scratcher: There was no full-length mirror in our room, only a few round bathroom mirrors above sink. NOR anywhere in the lobby. So honestly, you have no idea what you look like when you go out for the evening, from the neck down, depending how tall. Which is especially odd given the peacocks that the hotel wants to and seems to attract. But a few of them did look like they would never leave the bathroom if they could be gazing at themselves in a mirror.
The bathroom, otherwise, was big and had pizzazz, with a walk-in shower (but flimsy black liner as the only curtain). There were no dresser drawers in the room, though enough wooden hangars and closet space. There was a giant, stylized photo of some woman who vaguely looked like an actress whose name we should know. I only mention it because you could see your top-half reflection in the photograph at night, especially if wearing a light color. If you are desperate for a mirror. Otherwise, I really didn’t appreciate her looking at us non-stop.
While photos on website look glitzy and sexy, and there were glitzy and sexy guests on Friday and Saturday nights (some trying too hard but nevertheless), whatever spaces pictured in the photos were unrecognizable to me. Not anywhere I was privy to in the hotel. You must have to be invited to a party on the top floor. Because the bar is in the lobby, which does have a bit of a vibe but not much when we were there unless you bring your own scene. There did seem to be quite a few young and young-ish guests working it, having a drink before hitting the clubs, but there were also wholesome young couples who were up bright and early in their work-out clothing, or wearing backpacks and sneakers.
The staff is perfectly pleasant and nice. Rivington the Street itself is narrow and one-way, and very very active with the single scene. Hotel Rivington is right next to the exclusive bar, Tigre, which as far as I know, you have to find your way on to a secret list. The hotel is sited at very good location and crossroads for some of the best of Manhattan nightlife for the all-night crowd, as well as shopping and eating.
The short of it is, I would not care to stay at Hotel Rivington again, but if I had to, it wouldn’t be the worst thing by any means. I think for the price point, or slightly higher, one can do better and it would be worth it.Show More
