Nestled in the heart of Gion, this beautifully maintained ryokan offers the perfect blend of traditional Japanese hospitality and modern convenience. It’s just steps away from iconic sites like Yasaka Shrine, Kiyomizu-dera, and the charming streets of Higashiyama ideal for exploring Kyoto’s cultural treasures on foot.
From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming. They spoke excellent English, offered fantastic local dining recommendations, and even allowed us to drop off our luggage before check-in such a thoughtful touch. Umbrellas were available for rainy strolls, and their attention to detail made us feel truly cared for.
The traditional breakfast was a highlight: beautifully presented, nourishing, and deeply rooted in Kyoto’s culinary heritage. After a day of sightseeing, returning to our room felt like stepping into a peaceful retreat. The massive bath was luxurious, and the locally made scented lotions added a sensory delight. Yukata gowns, slippers, and a dedicated shoe locker enhanced the authentic experience.
For getting around, the GO Taxi app was a game-changer fast, reliable, and surprisingly affordable. A morning ride to Fushimi Inari Taisha cost around 2400 yen, making it easy to arrive early and enjoy the famous torii gates before the crowds. Just make sure you book a late breakfast as we had to call from the top of the mountain saying we wouldn’t make it back for our 7.30am breakfast slot.
