We had a wonderful weeklong stay at the LUMA Hotel last week. Our primary goal was to take in as many Broadway musicals as possible and soak in the holiday vibes of NYC. After a lot of online research...We had a wonderful weeklong stay at the LUMA Hotel last week. Our primary goal was to take in as many Broadway musicals as possible and soak in the holiday vibes of NYC. After a lot of online research and comparisons (yes, I used AI to scour reviews), I settled on LUMA because of its location, cleanliness, and highly regarded staff. It turned out to be absolutely the best choice for us (family of 3 adults). Specifically, - Location: While Times Square is a LOT in both the best and worst ways for vacationing, we chose it because of proximity to the theaters. We saw 7 shows and all were within a 15 minute walk from the hotel. The Times Square neighborhood vibe changes block to block and LUMA is located on a good one, close to the action, but on a quieter street. The hotel faces a nice little treelined plaza with good food & cafe options on the same block (Rosetta bakery, Maman Bakery, Equinox, Shake Shack, Pret-a-Manger). Bryant Park's annual holiday market was a half block away. - Rooms: For Manhattan standards, our 2 queen room was spacious. The Frette robes, linens, and slippers made it feel especailly luxurious On Site Food: I'm usually skeptical of hotel restaurants, but the Aperibar is a legit high quality Italian spot. We had a memorable Bistecca alla Fiorentina. The adjoining bar is also a great spot to grab a drink and bite before a show. The happy hour offerings made it even more attractive. - Staff: By far the biggest factor in making our stay extra special was the staff. Each staff member--from Reception to Doorman, Housekeeping, and the restaurant/bar wait staff--were amazingly helpful and hospitable. They seem to work well as a team. Special shout-outs to Debra, Joshua, Zac, Chris and Mackenzie. Returning to the hotel each day after an excursion or show felt like visiting our family home: a cozy sanctuary to recover from the nonstop Times Square energy. I would definitely choose to stay at LUMA Hotel again.Show More

Just a couple of things stop me giving it a full 5 stars. When I got to my room, I discovered the toilet flush was broken. Hotel staff fixed it within half an hour of me reporting it, but, given it needed a new part fitting, I was surprised it hadn't been flagged by housekeeping and it was lucky I was checking in at quite an early hour and not late at night. The room was excellent, with great views of 41st St from my 23rd floor window. Air con was efficient, if a little noisy when it kicked in. - although it didn't keep me awake. The one other thing that bugged me about my stay was the "timer lights" in the bathroom. On my first morning, I was in the middle of my shower and all the lights in the bathroom just went out, plunging me into darkness and leaving me to fumble around for a towel - which, I won't lie, was a bit dangerous. I thought there'd been a power cut, but then realised the lights are on some sort of timer circuit and switch off after a certain amount of time. No matter what I did on subsequent days: switching the lights on and off again before getting in the shower - they still regularly switched off while I was in there - and I was not in the shower for a long length of time at all!! I ended up having to turn on the light outside the bathroom and have the light shining through the glass bathroom door to help me see what I was doing. I've no idea why the timer is set to be so short or why it can't be adjusted - but it started to get a little annoying! Otherwise, a great stay. (Also had a lovely meal in the restaurant). I will definitely be back the next time I'm in NYC, but will bring my own torch with me next time!!!Show More

I have learned that you shouldn’t rely on reviews from individuals who don’t normally do reviews or don’t have any helpful thumbs up from other people. On entering the Luma I heard the staff asking customers checking out if they would give a five star review of the hotel. Our room wasn’t ready so we checked our luggage and said that we would be back later. The front desk clerk asked for my phone number to text me when the room was ready. We got back to the hotel around 2:00pm and were told the room still wasn’t ready so we waited in the very small lobby. A half hour later a text came through saying that the room was ready. Went to the desk and was told it would be ready very shortly. So we waited again in the lobby. Then we noticed the desk was checking in a lot of people so I went to the front desk. They said they were sorry but they forgot about me. I paid for a king skyline room to see the NYC skyline. The hotel has 27 floors our room wasn’t ready on the 17th floor but all we see is the back of a building. The room wasn’t ready extremely small and sparsely furnished. Storage is minimal. The bathroom is big enough for only one person at a time. Towels are terrible. The shower is terrible. The Luma claims they are trying to remain the number one hotel in NYC. In my opinion they aren’t even in the top 100 hotels in NYC.Show More
