Excellent hotel from start to finish…

Location:
Smack bang on Times Square and Broadway, great central spot for subway(s) and/or walking. We flew in to Newark, caught the train from there to Penn Station and walked the rest (about 10-15 mins with a big case)…however had we known we would have caught the subway to 50th St as it was only two stops away (we did this on return…recommended to us by the very helpful doorman).
We were flying back home from JFK and so catching the Air-Train to Jamaica Station from Penn was an efficient way of doing that.
Service:
Great service from every member of staff, shout out to the reception staff who were very welcoming, taking a short time to explain about the ‘Tourist tax’ and ‘Damage deposit’ as I call them. Check-in was actually enjoyable and quick thanks to the friendly and efficient staff.
NB: I admit to being a little worried that we’d experience what some have said here about problems with the deposit refund, however in practice not only was it made very clear how much this would be and how long it would take to refund, in the end the only deduction made on my card was the Tourist tax, which I fully expected anyway. Must mention the $35 hotel credit available each day…we only bought some water with it one day (wish we’d used it more now!) but as promised this was refunded in our final bill…thank you Tempo!
Also, as mentioned the doorman was extremely helpful, taking time to ask if we needed a cab on checking out and outlining the subway option back to Penn too. We really appreciated this as it proved to be a great tip.
Room:
Great room, a King bed as booked, more than big enough for our four night stay (do many people want to spend long in an NYC room anyway?), very clean throughout, lovely bathroom and shower (including a Bluetooth mirror for playing music while you wash!), great little fridge, full size TV, coffee machine with replaced pods every day, electric blackout curtains including a privacy blind, adequate clothes storage (albeit an ‘open’ wardrobe and little shelves spread around), a comfy armchair and finally ,a clothes steamer, but on asking for an iron & board (our preference), one was delivered within minutes.
In addition, the room was cleaned every day, with fresh towels etc, even though we didn’t request it. Excellent!
