We needed one accessible room for my in-laws, as one uses a walker and the other is in a wheelchair. They need 24/7 care, so we needed an adjoining room to theirs.
It's an extra $75/night to guarantee an adjoining room.
The accessible room was so far from the elevator that we needed to get another wheelchair for my 86 year old mother-in-law because she couldn't walk the full distance from the elevator to the room.
All of the people who booked a room in the wedding block was placed in a different building and the buildings are so far apart, you need a car or golf cart to go between them. How does this make sense? We had family and friends in from out of town and having the rooms spread out across the entire resort made it impossible to spend time together.
The rooms were OK, but definitely not on par with other hotels in the same price range. The floors in the non-carpeted areas were a little dusty, the mattresses were very soft/worn out, no hair dryers in the rooms, and you had to call the front desk to get a luggage cart, as none were available in the lobby (we were in the Sedona building). For $250+/night (and that was a steeply discounted rate), I expected more
Each room had a few bottles of water and some snacks. The water was $6 per bottle. I didn't bother to look at the prices of the snacks after seeing a bottle of water marked up 50x.
If you want late checkout, it's an extra $30 for the first hour and $10 an hour after that.
Between the prices for the snacks and water, plus the adjoining room fee and extra fees for late checkout, it just felt like we were being nickeled and dimed the entire time.
On the day we checked out we went to the lobby restaurant for lunch. It was an abysmal experience.
We dropped off my son and in-laws to get a table, then we parked the car and joined them. The in-laws had ordered coffee and had it when we got to the table. It took 10-15 mins for the server to come check on us and take our food and drink orders for lunch. We ordered donuts, salsa and guacamole, a burger and 2 Pepsi's. The restaurant was maybe 20% to 30% occupied and there were at least 3 servers and 3 food runners. After ordering, we waited at least 20-30 mins and still didn't have the sodas.
The food finally shows up, brought to us by another server (not the one who took our order) but still no sodas and no setups (silverware). I asked that server for the manager and she showed up a few minutes later. We still had not seen our original server and still had no sodas or silverware.
We explained to her the issues, for which she apologized, told us the meal would be comped and then quickly got us sodas and silverware. After about 10 more minutes, our original server shows up and asks how everything is.
The $25 cheeseburger that comes with 5 waffle fries was ordered medium, but was VERY well done and dried out. The $18 "doughnuts" were actually 8 donut holes that were about 3/4" in diameter (about 1/3 the size of a Dunkin donut hole) and came with two small ramekins that had a caramel sauce and a chocolate sauce. Salsa, guac and chips were $15 to $20 and the chips were stale. Every item was disappointing to say the least.
Be aware that if you order anything from the lobby restaurant for room service, the menu prices are all about 20% higher than they are in the restaurant, plus they add a $6 delivery fee and an automatic 22% gratuity. We ordered a club sandwich and a Sprite for my father-in-law on check in day that ended up being $67 due to the extra menu price, delivery fee and automatic gratuity.
What hotel books a block of rooms for a wedding party and then places each of the guests in a different building and they are spread out across the entire properly?
What hotel has their handicap accessible rooms placed farthest away from elevators and not on the first floor? (Almost forgot to mention that the elevator in the Sedona building would malfunction if you pushed the door close button, causing the doors to partially shut and then reopen several times).
Overall, the Arizona Grand Resort and Spa is a very poor value for the money in perms of the room quality, amenities, and food. They charge extra for things that IHG, Marriott, and other hotels offer for free, the Lobby Restaurant has poor / non-existent service and extremely overpriced food and drinks.show more
