INTRO:
This vintage hotel is a relic of the past, with a management that is also living six decades back in time
Built during the Vietnam War to lure U.S. soldiers with an American vibe, hotels like Miami and Atlanta have been running in Bangkok for over six decades.
Unfortunately, the hotel management of Miami has decided NOT to evolve with time, giving guests the same outdated service level that was applicable in the 60s, with an ingrained fraudulent approach
SCAM ALERT: On top of this, they're conning innocent guests as they will ask you 500 baht cash at the time of check-in, stating its hotel policy under the garb of "room key deposit". Upfront, they don't give you a receipt for the payment. Upon asking for one, you will be given a chit of paper (no hotel name mentioned), but if you read it closely, it will say "NON REFUNDABLE" at the bottom (sharing a picture of the same for public awareness).
PERSONAL DISTRESSING EXPERIENCE:
To avoid returning the deposit, the front office informed me on the second day that there was a blackboard marker stain on my bedsheet which was uncleanable.
Interestingly enough, we weren't carrying any marker that could make the kind of mark shown to us in the picture on mobile. Just to prove their point, they took a picture of a black writing pen of our kids, placing it next to our bed, and said the mark was a result of that pen.
Normally, you'd assume its a white cotton sheet of a hotel room - easily wasahable to remove all stains. In this day and age, all kinds of detergents/stain removers/bleaching agents etc. are available to remove all stains, however, since the intention was to usurp the guest's deposit money, Miami Hotel told us "it cannot be removed despite all efforts & you have to money"
In the first time, they asked me to deposit 1,500 baht as a fine for it, claiming the whole cost of bedsheet.
The second time, they called me at 10 pm in the night and asked for 2,000 bahts. As I had returned after a long day of exploration, I told them this wasn't fair and confronted them. They seemed clueless as usual.
At checkout — just as I expected — they demanded the payment again. After much argument, they threatened to keep my 500-baht deposit and even said they’d call the police if I refused. Just let that sink in!!
Since we had to catch another flight and they were just wasting my time, I offered them what they wanted!
Left the hotel.. never to come back again - Also inform other travelers about this wretched place
NEGATIVES
> Poor, worn out infrastructure with a clear sense of untidiness & bad hygiene across
> You will have mosquitos in your room at all times. Since I travelled with family, we all had multiple mosquito bite marks on our bodies during the stay
> Pathetic Room service: Despite requesting two times, dental kits weren't being provided to our room regularly (we stayed for 5 nights). The bath soap bottle got empty after 3 days, and it wasn't refilled till checkout
> Room Amenities: No electric point was available for the kettle and the hotel manager stated she had never thought of putting an electric point where the kettle was kept.
> Check-out: they make you wait 10-15 mins while they inspect every inch of your room (trying to find ways how to cease deposit money I guess); and you feel like criminal awaiting a verdict
> No gym, restaurant, recreational area. There's one dining area at the ground that stayed closed every time I visited
> Onsite pool: The only attraction inside the hotel, which is quite small and again hasn't been maintained much since 60s, as the water wasn't cleaned & had leaves / dust particles on both times I went for a swim
> The shower in my room was leaking massively at check-in, and a team of 3 people came to validate it (giving me the impression that I might have lied to them about it).
> No sound proofing inside rooms - you will hear all kinds of noise from outside
POSITIVES
After such a horrible experience at the hotel, there aren't may positives I can recall but below are some:
> Location is great. Near to hustle bustle shops, diners, pubs and, most importantly, sky trains (BTS and MTR)
> Commute is easy but that is applicable to all hotels present on Sukhumvit road.
