I booked this hotel ( tru by hilton edmonton windermere Edmonton ) based on the reviews, but my experience was completely different. The moment I walked into the room, it smelled like the windows had never been opened. The shower was disgusting with yellow buildup around it, and the walls looked very dirty. The hallway was also dirty, likely from animals, and the overall feeling was more like an animal hotel rather than one meant for people.
The room itself was extremely small, especially for the price charged. I ended up leaving within 10 minutes and moving to another hotel, even though my booking was non-refundable. I didn’t even fight to get my money back, because at some point they have to make money somehow. That said, the facility and service did not justify the price, and the front desk was not helpful at all.
A few positive notes: the reception area looked very nice, which initially made me think I would have a good stay. Unfortunately, that changed as soon as I walked to my room. The empty parking lot during a long weekend should have been my warning sign.
