The best thing about the hotel is its setting overlooking the bay of Naples. The reception and lobby is plush and well maintained with views over the bay. We did book a basic room so were not expecti...The best thing about the hotel is its setting overlooking the bay of Naples. The reception and lobby is plush and well maintained with views over the bay. We did book a basic room so were not expecting views and that’s ok! Reception is on level 4 and we were originally placed in a small room below street level on level 1 with a small balcony overlooking a smelly and untidy alley. We came mid October when the temperatures were still 21/22 degrees and the room on entering was stifling. Tried to make the A/C work with no success. When we asked for help we were told that all A/C is switched off at the end of October and there was none anywhere in the hotel. We could open the balcony doors but the smell was unbearable. We were moved to a larger room on level 4 with opening windows directly onto the street which was better temperature wise but very noisy and with no decent curtains not private! If the bathroom window was open everyone entering the hotel could see directly in! Some damp stains on the bathroom ceiling , the plug in the bath wasn’t working and had to be physically removed to drain shower water. The porter is angry looking and unfriendly with little understanding of English and appeared annoyed that we asked for help . Dinner menu is small and bland… prawn and saffron risotto was like a packet of savoury rice with a couple of prawns chopped up thrown in! Male waiting staff with the exception of the 2 younger guys were surly and unsmiling. The girls were lovely. Breakfast was better and there is a decent continental selection. The view from the restaurant and terrace are beautiful. A bit of a hike or taxi ride to get you into the city centre, staff will call taxis for you or book Ubers yourself. For a base to explore the attractions in the area it is satisfactory but not anywhere I would return to.Show More

Unico mezzo pubblico è la funicolare (quando funziona). Appena arrivati abbiamo appreso che la predetta funicolare era fuori servizio dal 24 al 27 Ottobre, sostituita da un bus di linea provvisorio che transitava ogni 30/40 minuti fino alle 22. L'alternativa era una sfacchinata in salita a piedi da Mergellina all'hotel di circa 3/4 km, oppure ricorrere ai taxi molto cari. La tratta dalla metro di Mergellina Mergellina all'hotel ( 5/6 km circa) due persone con due normali bagagli al costava 10 euro, mentre dopo le 22 12/14 euro. Non mi attardo a parlare della colazione e della pulizia della camera per pura carità di patria.Show More
