For context, we selected the resort through AMEX FHR. We arrived back from our cruise early Saturday morning and the opportunity to get an early check-in is appealing and appreciated. We arrived back from our cruise early Saturday morning and the opportunity to get an early check-in is appealing and appreciated. Also, we were staying over a couple of days and my wife was excited to use the spa. What we enjoyed about our stay - * Miguel @ the Bell Desk - A great representative of what customer service is about and should be a model for all associates. He greeted us when we got there (along with Ramon) and took care of our bags right away. While we waited for our room (more on that later), he checked in on us and also with the front desk to see if our room was ready. He was actually leaving for the day when he checked in one last time and found our room was ready and got our bags to the room and gave a tour. * The Strand - Great food, great service. We ate lunch on Saturday and breakfast Sunday. Everybody we came into contact with was friendly and as we were leaving Saturday even the bartender who had no other interaction with us thanked us for coming in. * Spa - My wife was pleased with the spa staff and the massage she received on Sunday from Hans (I believe I have the name right) She felt welcome and stated the staff was friendly and informative. Where the experience fell short was with the Front Desk staff. Not only did it fall short, but it really put a damper on our whole experience. We arrived around 10:00 am Saturday and were greeted by a woman that was sitting in the first desk. I introduced myself and acknowledged that we were extremely early and why. I was not expecting a room, but I did reference the opportunity for an early check in if it was available. She stated our room was still occupied and check out was 11:00 am, however she would let housekeeping know and get us in the room as early as possible. We were good with that and fully understood and she also explained check in was typically 4:00 pm. We took some time to explore the property, hung out in the lobby until around noon and then went for lunch. We came back from lunch and headed to the lobby to wait for our room. Another woman came in during this time to work front desk. . A couple of hours go by and around 2:30 our initial contact went home for the day. Now, I've been sitting in the lobby in plain view for about 90 min at this time, and maybe my expectations are too high that she would touch base with me to let me know my room still wasn't ready, but she didn't A few minutes later my wife went to the second woman and inquired, since the first never said anything else to us we thought it was a possibility our room was ready and no one had told us. The second lady told my wife 'you came too early and your room won't be ready until 4'. Yes, we know we came early. It was her attitude about it that really rubbed my wife the wrong way - almost as if we were bothering her - and we feel there was not communication from the first to the second. During this time the third desk was occupied by a gentleman who I was sitting almost directly in front of and he never even acknowledged I was there. For context - it was not that busy as we were well before check in time. We had resigned ourselves to the fact that we would get in at 4:00. At 3:30 another female agent came up to us to let us know our room was ready. Miguel was actually the driver of that as he went and checked one last time before he left. The question I have here is, how long was the room ready? Maybe 2 minutes, maybe 30. There was a lack of communication within the front desk team to communicate to us. Again, if not for Miguel - I'm positive it would have taken me until 4:00 when I went to ask to get my keys. I don't know the specifics of staffing that day, etc. - but knowing that you had guests in the lobby waiting for a room - was 3:30 really the best that can be done? I've used FHR many times and never had to wait that long - I rarely get in at noon, but usually by 2:00 pm I am in my room. The next morning - we did not have hot water in our showers. When we went down for breakfast, the first two ladies from yesterday were at the same desks. I asked the first lady (our initial contact) if she had any complaints about hot water as we didn't have any. She looked at me like it was unheard of and no, she had not had any complaints. She then stated 'I could send someone up from engineering to look at it if you want' If I want? Of course I want but based on my experience with this team on day 1 and her passive reaction here I was frustrated and told her never mind as I was heading out and my wife was going to be in the room. I believe a better approach for solving this problem would have been 'I'm sorry, I will get someone up there to look at it - what time is good for you?' Am I splitting hairs here? - Probably. However based on my experience from the day before and her response on Sunday, I didn't get the feeling they were even interested in helping us. Footnote: We left at 4:00 am Monday morning for our flight - no hot water then either. Self-inflicted I know, but we did let the guys at the front desk know as we were leaving. This gets us to checkout. Before we left Monday morning, I went to the TV to check out my folio and ensure all charges were correct. I had a blank screen No big deal - I'll get a copy at the desk when I leave. We went to the front desk and there were two nice gentleman there. We told them we were heading out, informed about the hot water and asked for a copy of the bill. Neither had access to the system. So was I charged correctly for everything? - guess I will have to wait for the email. I got the email - my credit for my breakfast was not applied as well as the $150 spa credit. Great - more for me to do upon getting home from vacation. I emailed billing and it was corrected this morning - but why did I have to ask for it? You have some great elements to your property - but our experience was diminished based on what we would describe as a lack of communication and follow-up by your Front Desk team.Show More

While there are noticeable cost-cutting measures and some decline in quality over the years, it was s...The resort continues to be a great retreat—I’ve been going since it was Canyon Ranch (since 2010). While there are noticeable cost-cutting measures and some decline in quality over the years, it was still an enjoyable trip overall. For instance, the spa showers used to have multiple jets but now only feature a rain shower and handheld, some of which were leaking or not working properly. However, the staff in the spa are so warm and friendly it made up for the downgrades. My massages were excellent, though my friend’s first experience was disappointing, which was unfortunate since I’d hyped up the therapists. She also had a foot injury, limiting her ability to join classes, but we appreciated being placed in a room near the elevators. I booked through Amex Platinum; no upgrade was available, but the accessible room was comfortable. I attended Pilates reformer classes, and the instructors were fantastic—especially in how they modified sessions to suit different experience levels. As someone with over 10 years of classical Pilates experience, I really valued that attention to detail. Our Amex Travel package included daily breakfast with a $30 per person credit/daily. However, with most dishes priced around $25, plus coffee or juice, we regularly exceeded the allowance by $20–30 between the two of us, which included gratuity. Gratuity was never comped even if we spent below the max allowance—which is understandable—but many comparable properties offer a more generous credit and often cover gratuity for breakfast. The breakfast quality isn’t what it used to be. For example, the avocado toast used to be better bread quality and incorporated cashew butter. Now it’s eggs with regular wheat bread and red pepper spread, which I wasn’t fond of. Also, the Tambourine Room was closed during our stay so that was disappointing. I couldn’t get a good signal throughout the property so I had to use the wifi, but it was so slow that I couldn’t even open Instagram. We couldn’t even stream movies on our iPad in the evening. The upload speed was 0.05 mbps, so that was disappointing and when I asked if there was an option for a higher speed, I was told to follow-up the next day when technicians were onsite. I understand it’s no longer a Canyon Ranch property and hasn’t been for years, but every time I visit, there seems to be another cost cutting measure in place.Show More

I arrived around 9:30 AM, and everything about the morning was exceptional. The staff was professional, welcoming, and sincere. The facilities were immaculate, the scent throughout the spa was calming, and the small touches — like the coffee and cookies made the experience feel thoughtful and elevated. The two young women working by the pool that morning were especially genuine and truly represented the resort’s hospitality. However, around 2:00 PM, right before my massage, the atmosphere completely changed. Two women entered the whirlpool area and began taking continuous photos and videos for several minutes, turning what should have been a peaceful, quiet environment into a disruptive scene. It was clear this behavior was inappropriate for a spa setting, yet it went unaddressed by staff even after another guest voiced concern. This was extremely disappointing not only because it interrupted what had been a flawless experience, but because it directly conflicted with the environment your resort promotes. After spending the entire day feeling deeply relaxed and rejuvenated, this situation took me completely out of that state. Guests come to Carillon to escape constant phone use and social media culture, not to see it carried into such a sacred space of rest and renewal. I’m sharing this because I truly value the quality of your resort and want to see it protected. I strongly encourage management to reinforce a no-phone or no-photo policy within the spa’s relaxation areas, and ensure that staff are empowered to step in when this kind of disruption occurs. The Valet crew, especially Alex, and the Bellmen Chris, Hero, and Miguel were so helpful every day. Shout-out to Concierge superstars James and Billy for their fantastic recommendations. At the restaurant, Alice, Camilo, Laureana, and Yves made every meal a delight. The Gym staff, especially Maria, kept us motivated!
