Arrived late and the welcome/check-in was friendly, efficient and fast. Straight to my room, unpacked and into bed. Single bed in a single room on the main floor with a small balcony overlooking the bay. Reasonable size room, very comfortable and clean, but as I said, absolutely tiny shower cubicle, I'm only 1m68 (5ft6) and not the widest person and I was bashing elbows and having to be careful...
Breakfast next morning on the terrace and WHAT A VIEW! Breakfast buffet has all you need, fresh fruit, joghurt selection cold meats and cheeses, scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon and a large choice of pastries and bread. Also fruit juice and Prosecco and you can order coffee or help yourself from a big samovar if you want "Americano".
Hotel does not offer evening meals but the pool bar seemed popular and good and it's less then 10 minutes walk up the hill to the old town centre with a huge range of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. I made a point of eating a large breakfast then looking forward to a decent meal in a different place each evening.
The hotel is slowly renovating and the first areas done are reception (bright, cheerful, welcoming) and the pool...the rest of the hotel does need modernising, the rooms are clean and comfortable but feel a little old and a bit tired. Not a real criticism, just an observation.
The pool has been wholly refurbished and is absolutely heavenly! Not huge but with wide shallow steps leading into the main pool, never more than waste-deep, and simply lovely. I swam upwards of 1000 metres every day and loved it. It's only open 10am to 6pm so I was disappointed not to have a pre-breakfast dip but then found 10-4 was perfect as the sun disappears behind the hotel by then anyway. Also, the steps up/down, all 189 of them, will keep anyone fit!
All in all, a good hotel, with potential to be really fantastic with the location and what they have done so far. Staff were really friendly and helpful, even with my terrible Italian. I enjoyed my stay and would come again, but probably book a double room for extra space.Show More
