2/10 Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Hype or the Price
Our recent stay at the Grand Wailea was far from the luxury experience we expected—especially considering we were paying for two rooms at this highly rated (and extremely expensive) resort. After 17 hours of travel, we arrived at 4:00 PM to an unfriendly and unhelpful check-in experience. The front desk agent provided no information about the resort—no mention of amenities, dining options, or even which elevator to take to our rooms. We wasted time riding two different elevators before figuring it out ourselves. Unfortunately, this lack of communication was a theme throughout our stay. No one explained that the pools “close” at 5:00 PM, meaning after that time, guests must get towels from valet—a policy that isn’t posted anywhere. Even basic resort amenities were laughably inadequate—there were only two working bikes available for the entire resort because the others were “broken” for the entire week. Customer service was shockingly bad for a resort of this caliber. The day after our arrival, I requested to speak with a manager. I was told she was in a meeting and would call me when she was done. That was five days ago, and I’m still waiting for that call. Beyond poor service, major resort attractions were unavailable. The water slides were closed until Wednesday, and the water elevator—once a signature feature—was out of order our entire stay (and according to staff, it has been broken for years). Perhaps the most frustrating issue was the pool chair situation, which felt like a real-life version of The Hunger Games. Guests were forced to battle for chairs every morning, and on multiple occasions, actual fights broke out. Adding to the frustration, the concierge and valet staff were consistently rude, making it clear that they were unhappy to be there—and even more unhappy to assist guests. The overall attitude of the staff was miserable and unwelcoming, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. To top it off, this resort nickel-and-dimes you for everything, which only adds insult to injury given the premium price tag. For what we paid for two rooms, we expected a far better experience. The lack of communication, broken amenities, rude staff, and overall chaos made for a frustrating and disappointing stay. We will not be returning and would not recommend Grand Wailea to others.

4/10 Formerly Grand Wailea
Our family has visited this property a number of times and we are saddened to see one of our favorite properties in the world not live up to its previous glory. With a $1300 average rate per night, it’s not unreasonable to expect near perfection everywhere. It’s clear the Blackstone, owner since 2018, has prioritized squeezing every last dollar out of their patrons while not investing in maintenance. Let’s start with the easy stuff; the pool. The upper water slide is so ill maintained, it ripped one bathing suit and scratched the legs of my wife. The pool water looked liked light blue milk; unfiltered and simply gross. Need more towels? Sorry, one washer is down so distribution was limited. The lazy river safety ropes were cut in half, dangling in the water. And the prized “water elevator”, down for the week; convenient. The rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms had been updated since our last stay. We couldn’t get ice in our hotel room because the machines were broken. If you make coffee, beware!! The coffee cups are too small for the output of the Nescafé. Hey @Blackstone, 787 rooms x 2 larger coffee mugs x $4 each = $6296… happy guest and happier housekeepers that don’t have to clean up a mess. Dining options have changed for the worse. No clear logic here other than how to charge more for less. The once magical grill overlooking the pool has been transitioned to Olivine, an Italian experience. Want bread? Sure, $18 for a miniature loaf of dry rosemary flavored gluten. Breakfast was served at HumuHumu; $62 per adult and $42 for a child. It just doesn’t sit well to pay $42 for my 8 year old to have a piece of bacon and two pancakes. For those not willing to be fleeced each morning at the buffet, head on over to Lulu. Here you will find one sweet lady trying her best to serve $7 hot coffee and $14 muffins to families. Will the line be long? Yes. Should you go self checkout in hopes to get a coffee faster? No. No one will get your ticket. Nobu opens this spring so only getting more expensive and less approachable, especially for families. We do not mind paying top dollar for top dollar service and quality. Grand Wailea under delivers sadly now. It’s unfortunate because the staff is exceptional. We stayed at the Westin Lahaina Resort prior to arrival at the Grand Wailea and it was a markedly better experience for half the cost.

9/10 Lovely stay, would definitely return
We were upgraded to a Napua room and it just about made our trip. It was such a lovely room with the ocean view and size. It also included other perks, including a lounge with breakfast, snacks, and a personal concierge. We had already booked all of our tours so we mostly just enjoyed the lounge benefits. The breakfast and snacks were nothing to write home about per se... and they weren't awfully vegetarian friendly... but they were a bonus we didn't expect and they saved us the hassle of finding ourselves breakfast each morning. The staff was also so helpful - I had sat in gum at some point so I asked for warm vinegar and a toothbrush to try to get it out. They brought it right up, which was wonderful and honestly a bit surprising. They had a text service for that kind of thing, which made it so easy to request help. It was right along the beach path and by a cute little beach.

2/10 Pool deck chaos- slides closed- lounge chair aggression
If you have booked this hotel be prepared for a horrible experience. Good luck getting a lounge chair- lines start before 6:30am-and people cheat and go in earlier than that- there is suppose to be a one hour rule if a lounge chair is not in use they will remove towels and make it available- they come thru 1 time a day and never return to remove towels. Who wants to have to set an alarm clock for before sunrise when you are on vacation to secure a lounge chair??? The last two days there has literally been renal and physical confrontations over the chairs- Multiple pool slides closed for several days - at some point they will close all of them to fix the slides surfaces so beware. I have multiple abrasions from the slide surface. Loud construction noise from the new restaurant. You have to pay and use valet for your car and cannot call for the car- instead you have to go down and stand in more lines. Today is Friday and standing in line for lounge chairs everyone is upset about their week, upset at the lack of communication concerning the closure of the slides, upset about the lack of lounges, upset about now having to rent beachside lounges and umbrellas- basically grateful for the weather, the beautiful island of Maui and its people- The one positive has been the club level lounge- staff lovely, breakfast end evening appetizers delicious- well worth the upgrade. This is at best a poor Hilton property and I would be embarrassed to have Waldorf Astoria in the name of this property. We will never stay here again- this was suppose to be the best Maui hotel for children- we are beyond disappointed.

4/10 Disappointed and disgusting
We checked in and the first thing I noticed was a massage therapy gun sitting on the bed (weird) and a bosa ball in the corner with something white on it (disgusting). I informed the luggage handler immediately and he said they would send down housekeeping. 8 hours later and it’s still sitting outside the room. Do they put random (dirty) exercise equipment in every room? It’s just strange. I notified the front desk and they couldn’t care less. For a place that charges $1,000 per night, I wish someone would take ownership. If this is their level of cleanliness and attention to detail, I’m worried about the rest of the room amenities. I feel like we checked into Motel 6, not Waldorf Astoria

10/10 It was wonderful!
The location was incredible! The beach, the sunsets, the palm trees, the views, the oceanfront path. The slides and pool was unreal. It was perfect for my family and my mom's 70th birthday celebration with all the little cousins.

10/10 Best lobby bar in Maui
When at Grand Weilea and are looking for the best old-fashioned, you must see Keoni at the lobby bar. Super friendly and amazing drinks and the only hotel that knows how to make them correctly... After sitting at the bar and meeting Keoni, he had a smile and great sense of humor. Top notch in my book

1/10 Disappointing and will not return.
We paid almost $1000 a night and the hotel was under major construction. The room was old. Our room was almost 3 football field walk away from the pool. The construction was the entire main hotel and lobby. For $1000 a night I don’t want to listen to jack hammers and walk past workers in a bathing suit every day. I wish I would get a partial refund.

9/10 amazing and memorable
Hands down the most gorgeous grounds and pools you will ever experience. best place to take kids with over six waterslides and the best lazy River and rope swing. staff go above and beyond to treat you like royalty. dining at HumuHumu is a must. try the Mac crusted mahi mahi.

Resort was amazing, hotel room, staff and location also amazing. Plenty of restaurants and a nice market to get supplies was in walking distance. Definitely an expensive resort but we felt was a great value considering. Definitely recommend a first floor room, garden view near the pools with kids. Made the experience so much better to just walk from the room to the pools.
