It’s promoted as a “5 Star” property, which we felt was important given the hotel’s collection of restored 1800s buildings. We booked a King Suite with a separate living room and fireplace.
The Good:
The main lobby is lovely — vintage furniture and character that feels old, in the best way. Breakfast offered both hot and cold options, plus a gluten-free table and toaster. The food was always very good. The 5–6 PM happy hour with a complimentary drink was a nice touch. The location couldn’t be better — steps from restaurants, shops, and the harbour. We loved being able to walk out the door and be right in the thick of things.
The Not So Good:
Check-in was lacked any warmth, or welcome. and no explanation or offer of assistance. No mention was made of the 3 flights of stairs ( 33 steps) to our suite - not ideal for anyone with mobility concerns.
Housekeeping was really poor. The first day the room hadn't been cleaned by 4:30, despite us being gone all day with the make up the room sign on the door. The next day we asked to please have the room cleaned by 1pm and were told cleaning happened from 3-7pm. The room was never cleaned properly and the hair in the bathtub on arrival remained there the whole 5 days. The $10 gift card offered “in lieu of cleaning” was only provided when we asked.
Some areas inside and outside the hotel need repair and fresh paint, quite a lot of maintenance seems deferred, and parking is often full.
We completed a survey, before posting this review, hoping to share feedback constructively. The manager, Megan Bruce, sent a brief reply. She highlighted their “5 Star rating three years in a row” and closed with, “I am afraid I am unable to expand further to address your concerns but hope we have the opportunity to host you again soon to bring your experience to a 10/10 with us.”
Disappointing, to say the least. The measure of a hotel is in the service and how it treats and values its guests. This hotel failed at both.Show More
