Our room backed up to a very run down apartment building (maybe a housing project?) and meant we couldn’t really open our blinds due to lack of privacy. There were kids literally hanging out on top of the roof yelling at each other and we could hear them pulling in the clothes line at night. There is no soundproofing in the entire hotel (inside or outside), someone walking down the hall quietly talking sounded like they were inside our room. As others have mentioned, the room was absolutely not clean - every single corner had dirt caked in it (especially in the bathroom). Don’t bother with breakfast - there is nothing “deluxe” or halfway decent about it. And with all this said, the absolute thing that sent me over the edge with this place was when I called down to the front desk to inquire about the weekday “cocktail reception” they offered. It was in our check in handout and mentioned on their website so the front desk should know about it, right? It was Labour Day but it was a weekday, so I called to ask if it was happening on that particular Monday. The front desk was so confused about this - “what do you mean a reception?” - it just honestly was the icing on the cake. When we checked out, no one asked about how our stay had gone or anything of the sort. It’s like they know it’s terrible and don’t want to give any sort of refunds. Bad customer service, unclean, SO LOUD - if you are paying above $150 Canadian a night for a room, you are paying too much.Show More

This was not a 3-4 star hotel. I would give it a 2-2.5 star rating. It is conveniently located in the center of town and the front desk staff was very nice. We did have issues with the television and...This was not a 3-4 star hotel. I would give it a 2-2.5 star rating. It is conveniently located in the center of town and the front desk staff was very nice. We did have issues with the television and had to have staff address 3x.The breakfast looked like all other motel breakfasts, adequate at best. We had a suite with 2 bedrooms and 1 extremely small bathroom. Bothe bedrooms had dressers and were clean. Hotel policy is that you need to ask to have your room cleaned which we did I on our second day. Not sure they did anything more than leave clean towels and make the beds. The bathroom was certainly not cleaned nor clean glasses replaced. The room had a damp musty smell most of the time until we turned on the heat pump for heat. Our room faced the parking lot which could be very noisy in the morning with the tour buses loading up. Aside from all this the most egregious thing we found was that a toilet plunger was left out in the hallway, visible to customers as well as piles of what appeared to clean towels and sheets sitting up top of bins in the hallway visible to customers. When we mentioned this to the front desk, nothing was done about it. We do keep in mind that finding help may be an issue for the Hotel at this time and know that folks might be over worked. Still the hotel shoukd be aware what customers see that may not be the best job the company is doing.Show More

Clean, clean, clean. All the amenities you'd expect: a fridge, coffee pot, hair dryer, tv, and some you don't, complimentary fresh coffee and tea in the lobby with fresh milk for the asking, a weekday happy hour, and a nice breakfast is included. The Pownal had no elevator, but it's easy to access upper rooms through the parking lot. Just ask the staff. The Pownal Hotel works hard at putting their guests first and succeeds. Great location to the main strip of stores and shops. Two suggestions: another towel rack or additiinal hooks in the bathroom, and a room safe.Show More
