The service ...I normally do not leave negative reviews, but the stay I recently had at the Park Hyatt Melbourne for a special occasion fell far below the standards I expect from a 5 star luxury hotel.
The service in the lounge was extremely poor. Staff were inattentive, disengaged, and lacked customer service. The extra drink I ordered never arrived after waiting for over 20 minutes. After waiting far too long, I cancelled it. Trying to pay the bill was even worse as no one came over until I had to hail someone down after numerous people had walked past me. Not to mention that paying for the bill also took so long that I eventually had to get up as I was leaving to hand the bill over to the worker who was standing at the bar.
Breakfast at Radii Restaurant was also disappointing. It was overcrowded, and the food selection was very limited and lacked variety for a so called 5 star property.
The front desk staff were not welcoming and made no effort to acknowledge that I was there for a special occasion. There was no warmth, no recognition, and certainly no sense of luxury hospitality.
There was also no welcome amenity provided by the hotel. The only gesture in the room was something arranged by my travel advisor through my Hyatt Prive booking. To make things worse, my travel advisor had requested a handwritten note to be delivered, but the hotel left a typed one instead which shows a clear lack of attention to detail.
Service consistency was another issue throughout the stay. Turndown service was not completed and had to be followed up. Water bottles were not replenished unless requested. The hair dryer in the room was faulty, blowing cold air despite being on the hot setting.
These may seem minor individually, but together they reflect a broader lack of care and attention.
Trying to reach guest services on the phone also, was consistently frustrating. On multiple occasions, I had to call 4-5 times just to get through to someone. For a luxury hotel, this level of responsiveness is simply unacceptable and further reflects the broader service issues.
Most staff members I encountered came across as snobbish, stuck up and indifferent. This created an uncomfortable atmosphere during a stay that was meant to be special.
The only positive interaction was with Martin the porter, who was genuinely warm, friendly, and helpful. He stood out as the only one staff member who delivered anything close to 5 star service and deserves to get the recognition.
Having stayed at Park Hyatt properties across Asia, the difference in service here is shocking. Park Hyatt Melbourne doesn’t come close to the refined, attentive, and polished service standards that the brand is known for. Service felt inconsistent, poorly executed, and in many cases completely nonexistent.
Overall, my stay was very disappointing. For a hotel that positions itself as one of Melbourne’s premier luxury properties, the lack of professionalism and attention to detail was unacceptable. I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone as this is not even close to 5 stars.Show More
