The room we ended up in was nice - the view of the water was gorgeous. We also enjoyed being so close to the beach and the various pools, including one for adults only, were nice.
Appreciated that there was self parking and that valet wasn't required, as it is at some other hotels.
Location worked well for a lot of the things we had planned, plus it was walking distance from Whaler's Wharf, which was nice in terms of having food and shopping nearby.

10/10 Gem on Kaanapali
What a truly special place to take your family! Our family of four visited (3 of us visiting Hawaii for the first time) this February, and this resort was dreamy.
The hotel is right on the beach, so the ocean is an integral part of your stay and home there - the sounds, the whale-sightings, the colors. The pools are everything our 9-year-old and 12-year-old wanted - varied, waterslide, waterfall features, basketball hoop.
We were fortunate enough to stay in the Hokupa'a tower, which was an added bonus, because we found our home base: the Lanai lounge. Greeted every morning by Gia, a host who makes everyone who walks through her door feel welcome and special, how can your day not be brilliant? Delicious breakfast. Easy snacks for hungry swimmers, a place to come for a quiet cocktail at the end of the day, staff that is classy, kind and easygoing all at once.
We were only staying at the Westin for two nights of our time on Kaanapali. And it took only minutes at our next hotel before the fallen faces of our kids (and perhaps our own as well) had us on the phone to see if we could return to the Westin the next day. I know it sounds ridiculous - it was - but the decision was the right one, as time in Hawaii is precious. We were back in the fantastic pools, getting to visit with wonderful Gia at the Lanai, wave-jumping right in front of the hotel the very next day.

4/10 Disappointing Stay at Westin Maui Resort
Our stay at the Westin Maui hotel was a big disappointment. I made reservations for a Kukahi-Aina View King (Resort View) in November for a trip in late January, expecting some lush greenery with view of the mountains in the distance. As a Marriott Platinum Lifetime member, I was hoping for a small upgrade to a resort/pool view or such.
Imagine my surprise when I entered my assigned room, 1030, to find a view mostly of the parking garage in the back of the hotel.
I then went down to the front desk to speak with the Manager-on-Duty, but the Front Desk Manager came out and told me that there were NO other rooms available in the hotel (with 789 rooms) to make a change.
In my thirty-plus years as a loyal Marriott member, I have never been as insulted as a as that morning at the Westin Maui.
My husband and I departed the next morning and returned to Honolulu.
Upon my return home, I sent a letter to the General Manager, Mr. Joshua Hargrove, to express my disappointment with his hotel. I have not yet received a reply.
I do not recommend the Westin Maui Resort to any Marriott Bonvoy members, or anyone else for that matter.

8/10 Great location , clean, excellent housekeeping ..not super luxe but a clean nice property
This was a family trip..we were able to refill
Water bottles , go to gym and great morning yoga, cocktail service at pool good but slow at bars .. easy to get chair and towels at pools , beach had chairs for a fee which I am not a fan of. I like when the shade and chairs are included .. the nickel and dime of beach equipment or snorkel
Or boards.. should just be included..I think we usually stay at a little higher end that includes these things. Overall service at restaurants and getting in wasn’t great Starbucks before 7 am was good not after. Loved the weaving class and the huge arcade was impressive..it did have a bad smell in there . Pools and ground clean proximity to whalers and beach path great. Walked to Roy’s and black rock.. haven’t been in kaanapali for many years..haven’t stayed here in 25? Good overall experience . 2/10 Worst service ever for a Marriott property
I am giving a 1 star review to this hotel due to service (or lack off) provided by the hotel staff. The check-in took more than an hour because there was only 1 person working the front desk at 5 PM (when the regular check in time is 4pm).
Same experience when trying to get towels. The towel rack is supposed to close at 6pm, but they were closed at 5:45pm. Once you head to the concierge for the towels, they tell you that they can’t help you and that you need to talk to front desk. Poole are open until 10pm, but you can’t get towels post 5:45pm or even earlier depending on the mood of the staff.
We had the same issue with the hotel staff across the board, its restaurant staff, concierge , front desk or anyone at the hotel.

7/10 Overpriced but great option if you're looking to not move around/think much while close to Whalers
The facilities were great and felt larger than expected, with a lot of different areas to lounge and swim in making it easier to spend days on the resort without getting bored. Plenty of food options with excellent service.

Fantastic property. Lots of fun pool activities/locations. Very cool lobby area. Comfortable room/bed. Very friendly housecleaning crews. Adult-only pool area for some relaxing quiet time. Snorkel rentals, and beach chair/umbrella rentals.

The view was incredible. location was top notch. Great being close to the whalers village to buy supplies from the ABC shop which is more affordable compared to eating at the resort the entire time.

The staff are great and the food is good, but the adult pool is full of parents pushing their babies and toddlers around with no problem. There are not enough umbrellas and shade at the pool after 8am. The elevator in a 10 floor tower was broken our entire stay. There are no discernible benefits for a gold elite member. The room rate was very high for a fairly basic Marriott room. There is a $50 resort fee for god knows what when there are no chairs with an umbrella after 8am and despite this hotel being on the beach, an umbrella and 2 chairs will cost you $85. Can’t recommend.

The outdoor pools were fantastic. You can't beat the location as it is close to the beach, restaurants and shopping. Food and drink were also very good. Also having a hospitality room the day of our check out helped to extend our stay.

Absolutely beautiful stay right on the beachfront. Multiple dining options onsite and a short walk to whalers village with plenty of shopping and eating options. The grounds are beautifully kept and the staff incredibly friendly and helpful. While the price is on the higher side we definently think it’s worth every cent and would love to come back.

I recently stayed at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa for five nights and had an excellent time with my fiancé. The resort is packed with fun and entertaining amenities, convenient restaurants and bars, and a very cool pool area with waterslide. If you are staying in this area of Maui mostly to go to the beach or sit by the pool then you will not be disappointed with the Westin. The location is right on Ka’anapali Beach so you can step directly on the sand. For the price, which is very expensive, I was extremely happy with the beachfront views and interesting pathways and sights. I was happy with the King bedroom I reserved and even though I did not have an ocean view I really enjoyed the garden view that overlooked the nearby golf course and had the mountains in the background. The room was very clean and the bed and bath areas were great. I really liked the bedding and mattress. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food that we ordered from the Hale Moʻolelo was pretty good both the takeout and dine in. We appreciated that the Hale Mo’olelo was open late. There is often live music and we were very impressed with one of the singers during our dinner meal. I did not get a chance to try the fancier restaurant or their market & eatery. I got drinks from the poolside bar and the Hale Mo’olelo and they were always made great tasting and strong with booze. One of the best parts was the lobby of the resort which had a gigantic coy fish pond with lots of real flamingos just hanging out. There is also three larges cages with parrots and cockatoos for the guests to enjoy viewing. The resort has little events going on all the time. My fiancé was able to have a parrot walk on her head from the animal trainer and often employees would be handing out freshly cut fruit. The Westin has a sidewalk the follows the length of the beach past other resorts and is a fantastic walk to start the morning. There is also a shopping mall directly next door in walking...

The resort itself was beautiful. Lovely water features, landscaping, birds and Koi fish. The restaurant was great. Yummy dishes and no waiting most of the time. Poolside service was great.
