As many have noted, the location is great on King Street. Close to many shops, restaurants, sights, etc. The hotel has a lot of old world charm, including serving homemade cookies in the afternoon in the spacious lounge area. Rooms are average sized but bathrooms are small, and the toilet reminded me of one you would see in a school bathroom, with the industrial flush mechanism.
But what really defined this stay was when I woke up after the first night (my wife and I arrived at 1 am and crashed immediately). When I pulled back the covers to get up, I noticed dried blood (brownish red on the top sheet. Not a trickle, either. It was 2-3 inches by about 2-3 inches of staining. I made sure that I had not somehow bled during the night. I hadn't.
When I politely informed the front desk clerk about the situation, she seemed alarmed and sympathetic and said she would pass on our concern.
The sheets were changed when we got back later that day, but housekeeping/management never acknowledged or apologized for what could be a significant health violation/concern. When I checked out and mentioned it again, the clerk was surprised because there was no notation in their system. Other people probably would have demanded that the hotel comp the room. I did not. On the extremely rare occasions in my life when something has been seriously awry in a hotel room (e.g. a toilet left very unflushed), hotels have rushed to bring up fruit baskets, wine, whatever. I wasn't looking for that, but it shows how unresponsive this hotel is to their guests' concerns.
To add insult to injury, we were told that every room was stocked with two bottles of water. Ours wasn't.
