Very disappointing experience. I expected a semi-luxury hotel and it was not what I expected. Be careful when booking. Be careful when booking. I booked a double superior (because i wanted a bath and deluxe only had shower.) My electronic confirmation said I was in a “classic room, which doesn’t exist as a category when booking on their website. When I arrived they put me in a standard room. When I brought the discrepancy to the front desk clerk, she essentially told me to “pound sand.” The manager also insisted it must be my mistake, even though he could not explain why the confirmation said “classic room” despite no classic room being offered. There is a lot of construction going on around the hotel. There were no views from the room. The lobby was alright, but the bedroom decor was a bit drab. I had a ripped curtain, peeling wall paper and a dusty chair. I brought the ripped curtain to the managers attention and he said he would fix it. Nothing was done during my stay. The whole hotel needs a bit of an update, at least my room. On the positive side, it was good size room and the bed was comfortable. Double beds fit only one person each comfortably. Bathroom seemed a bit updated and clean, albeit small. Hallways dark and drab. No room service. Restaurant connected to the lobby. Buffet breakfast was so-so. Things were not replenished and no ability to order anything a la carte. Mandatory seating by hostess even though a large room and unnecessary. Uneven service by staff. Had a very unpleasant experience with a front desk person named Sadie. Manager Nicolas didn’t seem to take my complaint seriously. The rest of the staff were pleasant. Huge staircase at the entry to the hotel. If you are mobility challenged you have to enter by going through a side alley down the street as I understand it. Located in the midst of the most touristy area (lots of souvenir shops), but walkable to most locations of interest. I would recommend the more upscale area and hip hotels in the lower town (Hotel 71, Auberge St. Antoine) or the hotel chains nearby like Marriott or Hilton for more consistent service and amenities. The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is the gold standard, but quite expensive and swarming with tourists, who are not guests, in the common areas. Feels like Disneyland in the lobby. Net-net, too expensive for what they provide imo.Show More

The location of the hotel is truly excellent, right in the heart of Old Quebec. The rooms are very clean and well maintained, which is definitely a plus. That’s where the positives end. The parking was inconvenient: we had to walk along the street to reach the hotel entrance. There we faced an unpleasant surprise, a long staircase where we had to carry our suitcases and a stroller. Since we didn’t know about this in advance, we refused the staff’s help and later regretted it. Breakfast is another story. It was expensive and, in my opinion, unjustifiably so. We also paid for the children, but they refused to eat anything because they didn’t like the food. In the end, they only drank juice.Show More

Negatives: We stayed on 2 occasions. A 3 night stay in a superior room and later for one night in a standard room. On both occasions we found: Rooms were dark and gloomy with small windows that let in little sunlight. We had to have the lights on most of the time. Both rooms had absolutely no view other than wall of adjacent buildings and a rooftop with extractor ducts. We tried to spend as little time as possible in the room as so depressing. Rooms were cramped and impractical. Bathrooms were small. Loud noise of extractor fans from the hotel restaurant and other areas of the building which affected sleep. We had specifically requested, prior to arrival a room that was not disturbed by this type of noise. To add insult to injury , the elderly air conditioning unit in both rooms was also extremely loud. We did not get a good nights sleep. Only expresso cups supplied in the room. When requested we were told that the hotel had no larger cups for tea. Disappointing as they did supply a kettle and teabags! Breakfast experience was not good. We were unable to choose where to sit as the majority of tables were allocated to tour groups. A polite request to sit elsewhere was met with an audible huff and rolling of eyes from the staff member who banged our cutlery down to express her displeasure! Breakfast was adequate but compared to other hotels during our trip it was fairly basic. Having spent most of the day away from the hotel we returned to find that the room had not been serviced. This did not happen until turned 4pm on one day. On the other day it was only cleaned at almost 5pm, after we had contacted reception to ask for cleaning. We found reception staff not very helpful and rather unapproachable at times. During our first stay one of the lifts was out of order and there were long waits and this meant that sharing the lift with cleaning and laundry trolleys was commonplace. The hotel is very much geared towards tour groups. As independent travellers we felt less valued. Had our second one night stay had not been prepaid we would not have returned.Show More
