If you’re traveling to New York City over the holi...We just spent the most magical Thanksgiving staycation weekend at The Refinery Hotel with our 5 & 2 year-old, and we're so happy we chose this hotel. If you’re traveling to New York City over the holidays, stop scrolling and book this hotel. It was perfection from start to finish. The moment we pulled up, Ralph the doorman made us feel like royalty. He swooped in to grab our bags (in the pouring rain), and assured us that as a dad himself he understood the relief of getting where you are going and not worrying about a thing. Every single time we came back to the hotel—whether soaked from a light rain or exhausted from the parade—Ralph’s huge smile and “Welcome home” greeting set our minds at ease. Location = holiday magic on easy mode. We walked everywhere with a double stroller and never once needed a cab: 3 minutes to Bryant Park Winter Village steps away from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route (allowing Dad was able to hold down the fort while the family got ready) 10-15 minutes (two year old insisted on walking) to Saks light show which we enjoyed on the way home from dinner 20 minutes to Central Park (Ice skating here is much less crowded and more economical than Bryant Park) Being able to pop back to the hotel for diaper changes, naps, or hot chocolate (complimentary in the lobby) breaks made the weekend feel luxurious instead of overwhelming. The room was an absolute haven for couples and families alike. Santal 33 bath amenities were a treat (never used so much lotion in my life). Housekeeping transformed the sofa into the cutest kiddie bed every evening with sheets and extra pillows, even placing little Refinery slippers next to the sofa which my 5 year old LOVED. Pack and Play was provided with bedding prior to us checking in. The room was extremely quiet despite being on the 3rd floor. (SO thankful) The blackout curtains actually blacked out, and led to the family sleeping in until 9AM which was the best gift of all. Mini fridge had space to keep milk, yogurt pouches, and other essentials for the kids. Little touches that made traveling with tiny humans painless: Welcome bags of popcorn, crayons, a Refinery coloring book, and bottles of water allowed us to settle in without having to run out. The Thanksgiving activations: face painting, donuts, cotton candy, and refreshments were the perfect buffer to the hour-drive home. Rooftop (Refinery Rooftop) is heated and family-friendly until 6PM which was the perfect space to wind down for the kids and cocktails for mom and dad were a treat before putting the kids to bed. We’ve dragged our kids to plenty of “boutique” NYC hotels that claim to be family-friendly but make you feel like you’re inconveniencing them. The Refinery is the opposite: every staff member lit up when they saw the kids. They genuinely wanted us there. Thank you, Refinery Hotel—and an extra huge thank-you to Ralph—for giving our little family the most joyful, stress-free Thanksgiving staycation. Front desk - Julian and Sebastian made me feel welcome from the start in a way that didn’t feel forced or fake (like I’ve experienced elsewhere). I’m very chatty and they were so kind to converse with me for (more than) a few minutes. I met Jessica during checkout and she was so sweet and wonderful! I will be checking out a few places back home that she suggested. Julian was also at the front desk on my last day. I worked at hotels for many years and he is five star. Genuinely nice and incredibly helpful. Parker & Quinn - My first night, I sat at the bar and Alex and the other gentleman and young lady behind the bar were excellent. They were super attentive even though the bar was packed. We also had dinner there another evening and Cory was our server. Again, superb service! As far as food - The burger was perfect, the short rib was really good, and the cheesecake was the slice NY cheesecake I had been craving. As far as drinks, the Spring Training was my favorite. Doormen/Bellmen - Ralph was genuinely nice and helpful on multiple occasions. Lamar and the other taller gentleman (was not able to catch his name) were also very nice. Again, not forced or fake. Rooftop - We had a late lunch/early dinner before heading to a music festival and were looking to be in and out. They did not disappoint. Our server, Caroline was a gem. It was busy, but her demeanor was calm yet she did not miss a beat. The chicken paninis we had were delicious and exactly what we wanted! On my last day I also went up to get the Empire State Building shot and Matt, the manager, did his best to help me out but it was too cloudy to get a decent picture. I really appreciated him taking the time though. The gentlemen that were standing at the elevators in the evenings (for the private events, I assume) were also lovely. The hotel itself was nice. Even though it was raining half of our stay, I never saw dirt or water on the floor. Our room was a nice size for being in the city. Like I mentioned, I’ve worked in hotels so I strip the beds and check everything! Housekeepers naturally leave a strand of hair or something behind but I found nothing. The bathroom was clean to my standards (which is rare). The beds were spotless and made perfectly. There is central heating and air conditioning and not one of those noisy units most places have. There is HOT hot water (which is also rare) in the shower and sink. The bed was comfortable to me but the mattress is firm. That is something to consider. Minor con - there was a charge for a mini bar item that we did not consume, but I let Julian know before departing and he immediately adjusted the bill.Show More

My family and I were looking for a special place to stay in Manhattan to celebrate my son’s 7th birthday. A close friend recommended the Refinery Hotel, located on 38th and 6th Avenue — and I’m so glad they did! From the very first call, the experience was amazing. I spoke with Lauren in Reservations, and she was absolutely wonderful. I explained that my son’s favorite building is the Empire State Building, and I was hoping for a room with a view. Without hesitation, Lauren assured me she would take care of it — and she did! She took her time, answered all my questions, and made booking our weekend in the city easy and stress-free. I also asked if the room could be decorated for his birthday. Enter Bryan, the Guest Services Coordinator — he went above and beyond! The room was perfect: balloons, a happy birthday sign, coloring pages with crayons, even a birthday card. My son was thrilled and couldn’t stop smiling. The room itself was spacious and had that perfect view we were hoping for. Luisa, the Front Desk Manager, made check-in a breeze. She was warm, helpful, and even made sure we had water bottles and even accommodated my 2-year-old daughter by having a quart of milk for her — such thoughtful touches. The doormen were fantastic as well — a big thank you to Adnan, Raf, and Ray for being so kind, attentive and helpful throughout our stay. The rooftop bar offered an incredible view of the Empire State Building, along with great drinks at very reasonable prices. The hotel restaurant was equally impressive. Our server Sammy was attentive and kind, and Sonny, the restaurant manager, personally checked in to ensure everything was perfect. He even gave our son birthday dessert and sang him happy birthday. The food and drinks were both top-notch. This trip was one we’ll always remember — and a big part of that was the outstanding service and hospitality at the Refinery Hotel. From the moment of check-in, the experience was marred by multiple unresolved issues: • Room Comfort & Heating: Despite repeated requests, the room remained uncomfortably cold. I had to ask multiple times for a portable heater and extra blankets, and even then, the temperature remained inadequate for restful sleep. At one point, the room temperature dropped to 50°F, despite being set to 80°F. This is unacceptable for any guest, let alone at your price point. • Odor & Cleanliness: The room had a persistent bad smell, which I reported immediately. Housekeeping was slow to respond, and I had to follow up repeatedly—both via text and phone. The delay in resolving this issue added to the discomfort and frustration. • Room Assignment Discrepancies: As part of a group, I was disappointed to learn that other guests received better room types while I was assigned a less desirable option. I raised this concern, not seeking special treatment, but equitable consideration. The response I received did not address the inconsistency in a meaningful way. • Customer Service Responsiveness: While some staff responses were courteous, the overall handling of my concerns lacked urgency and follow-through. I had to escalate basic requests multiple times, and even then, resolution was delayed or incomplete. I’ve attached screenshots of my conversations with hotel staff as proof of these issues. These messages clearly document the repeated attempts I made to seek help and the inadequate responses received. Given the high cost of the stay and the reputation of the hotel, this experience was deeply disappointing.
