8.6(391)4/10 Very old hotel (not in a charming way) with great views
The only pro of this hotel is that it is waterfront and central to high end shopping.
Given the price point, however, I was expecting more. In fact, it was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The check in process was easy but when we checked into our room, it smelled like a cigarette had mated with a fish. The hotel accommodated our wish to move to a less fragrant room. Our next room had no shower curtain. The hotel once again fixed this quickly only to get back to our room and find the shower head did not work. The hotel staff also fixed this, but I have not experienced so many issues in an overnight stay for 700 a night. I will say the hotel refunded our resort fee, so the staff were responsive but the hotel is just very, very worn down. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable, but the decor is from the 1970s.
Another thing to note about choosing points or breakfast at check in. The only thing that is free is yogurt parfait (which is tasty), but everything else is just reduced fee not free as they would lead you to believe. Do yourself a favor and keep your points. The restaurant was decent for breakfast and overlooks the water, which is nice.

10/10 Best Resort in Honolulu - Waikiki Beach
I really can't say enough wonderful things about this resort. The service at this hotel is the best we have ever experienced. The only guest experience that is similar is Disney World Deluxe Resorts. The food was marvelous, rooms were comfortable, location is right in the heart of Waikiki. The beach and pools are marvelous. We hope to return with our grown children and grandchildren. I don't have one item to complain about with this resort. It was 10/10 in every way. Not sure if I would ever stay anywhere else!

10/10 If you have just one chance to visit Hawaii, this is the place to stay.
We had an ocean view room on the 15th floor with an incredible panorama of the entire beach including Diamondhead. By coincidence, our stay included a fabulous fireworks display for which we had a front row seat. Our fantastic dinner outside at Azure was a magical experience and quality of the food and drinks at the Mai Tai Bar exceeded our expectations. Close access to shopping was also a plus.

10/10 Feeling of Aloha
The Royal Hawaiian is our favorite hotel in the world. We had another great experience yesterday when meeting Luke one of the valets . He asked about our plans for the day and he suggested a local Hawaiian restaurant for us to dine at. It was amazing. Luke was friendly and extremely helpful . We truly enjoyed chatting with him and once again the feeling of Aloha was above and beyond .

10/10 Old world charm
Loved this hotel!!! It was much calmer than others nearby - had that laid back island vibe - but with all the amenities. We stayed in the newer section. Our room was spacious and lovely with a nice balcony and view of the ocean and Diamond Head. The beds were comfortable. Service was great everywhere. Would love to go back someday.

10/10 A real classic!
A really great experience! We arrived early and stayed at the bar till our room was ready. The hotel has a beach and you can reserve chairs and towels which is great. The breakfast is really nice and the dinner restaurants. Make sure you get a mai tai! The hotel is also walking distance from great shops.

The property was beautiful and well maintained! Perfect location and great beach. Staff was so attentive, talking with CJ and getting our Royal Hawaiian Iced lattes every morning at the bakery was one of our favorite parts of the hotel!

EVERYTHING. The building is just incredibly beautiful and very well kept. The staff was just the absolute best, every single person there. The food is amazing, we had breakfast included with out stay and that turned out to be our favorite part of the stay going to Surf Lanai every morning. Everyone has to try the pineapple juice, best in the world. If/when we come back to Oahu, we won't even consider another resort. The massages were amazing. Just cannot recommend this place enough!

I did not actually stay at The Royal Hawaiian, it was my daughter who stayed with her husband on their honeymoon which I booked for them and was able to pay with help from the front desk at the hotel which were very helpful friendly to me during the confusion when my daughter and son in law checked in.

10/10 We stayed in the modern wing
Central location but separated from the street by buildings and incredible garden. Architecture and history of the hotel is just amazing, people were coming just to tour it. One of a kind souvenir shops. Room was modern, clean and comfy. Beds were very comfy. View from the ocen view room is just breathtaking. Electronic bidet (more like a Japanese toilet) was a great addition.

Beautiful historic hotel located in the heart of Waikiki Beach set in peaceful gardens. For our 11 night stay we were fortunate to be allocated a dual aspect garden king room with a glimpse of the ocean and Diamond Head.

10/10 Iconic and one of the kind hotel that remained true to its roots and history
We stayed on Oahu, Kauai and Maui and this was our favourite hotel we stayed in Hawaii. The location is iconic, the fact we had sunbeds right on Waikiki beach was a dream. We absolutely loved the look and feel of hotel, respectful of the Hawaiian roots and distinctive versus all the generic luxury hotels you can find in Hawaii that lack any personality. The atmosphere was amazing, the facilities and the restaurants on site were very good. I personally also liked that it was central also to the main bulevard, it was useful for our stay to be walking distance but at the same time easy to get out by car for our trips. We enjoyed the breakfast provided by the hotel. Exceptional services. We will definitely recommend this location!

The Royal Hawaiian is a beautiful, well maintained and charming hotel with the best location on Waikiki Beach. The gardens are a peaceful, tropical paradise. We loved our five nights in an Ocean Front King in the Mailani Tower.

Staff was so friendly - every single person we encountered. The breakfast was out of this world delicious - between my whole family we tried them all at least once. The pool is a bit small and in the shade, but we all loved the fact that the Mai Tai Bar was separated from the pool area. The views from the porches were amazing and we all thought the more private location of this resort was exceptional. I will highly recommend the Royal Hawaiian to anyone I know who is planning a visit. Located in the heart of the social scene, convenient to all the shopping you could dream of, and the parking was convenient and easily accessible for self-parking. We didn't feel a need to valet at all. We loved the coffee shop. We loved the gardens. We loved the decor. We loved our accessible shower in one of our rooms since we had a need for a roll-in shower. We loved the decor throughout the property. And the interior garden was beautiful. Royal Hawaiian beats any of the other hotels available hands down. And we stopped in quite a few for cocktails. We chose this over another nearby "related" property and we are so glad we did. I couldn't love this place more!!!

8/10 Royal Hawaiian Tower
I stayed in an ocean front room for the first five days of my stay which was spectacular. I then returned for two nights and had booked a tower room for the architecture and views. I was extremely disappointed for a range of reasons. The room had a great view however it had not been cleaned properly, the interior was old, tired and substandard. The entire tower needs renovating. The first morning I woke to the nauseating smell of fried breakfasts and ketchup as the tower building is close to the hotel kitchen. I would urge travellers not to stay in this part of the hotel until the entire building is renovated. Steven, the Head of House Keeping was excellent. He moved me to an ocean from suite which was stunning and more to my taste.

the location is obviously top but overall it feels overly expensive for the value you get. It feels the hotel’s base is its history and marketing hence the price but even the „new” renovated rooms feel aged. Housekeepin was great and kept the room clean but it just is a mid-range hotel at best. AC was extremely loud in my room - I was unable to sleep with it so just slept with the AC off.

The staff was wonderful, always cheerful, always greeted us, always doing their job with care. The room was always clean and inviting. The food was great as well.

Best location on Waikiki Beach. Beautiful well maintained heritage building. Large size rooms with spectacular views. The lush tropical garden and grounds are a knock out and a welcome respite to the retail madness of the high street. The location is walkable and accessible to everything one needs; whether it shops, restaurants or recreational activities. Wouldn't stay anywhere else! The Royal Hawaiian is the epitome of old world Oahu.
