We stayed at The 50 Sonesta Hotel New York, which was recommended by a good old friend, a New Yorker, very experienced in the hotel industry. The 50 is excellent; very well located, with restaurants, convenience stores, supermarket, liquor store, attractions, like St. Patrick Cathedral and Rockefeller Center, all within walking distance. The staff is very nice and friendly; the front desk agents are very kind, professional and always available to help, as well as the doormen. Check-in and Check-out were fast. Room was nice and clean thanks to a very efficient and polite maid. We stayed for a week but wish to have stayed longer. We had a great time. I have more than 55-year experience in the hotel and travel business. I have, also, been visiting New York, every year, since the early 1970’s. With my wife for the last 40 year. We have also travelled around the world, staying in many different hotels. We highly recommend The 50 Sonesta New York on your next stay at the Big Apple.Show More

If you’re looking for a hotel that gives you the full New York experience without the chaos, this is it. The location is outstanding – a short walk to Grand Central, Fifth Avenue, and great places to eat, but still calm and relaxed on a quieter street. It really does give you the best of both worlds. Our room was modern, clean, and very comfortable, with plenty of space which is a real bonus in NYC. Beds were super comfy, the shower was great, and everything felt well looked-after. After long days exploring the city, it was the perfect place to unwind. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and the hotel has a warm, welcoming feel that made us settle in right away. We felt looked-after without being fussed over. Overall, a fantastic stay and we would happily return. Great value, great location, great hotel. Five stars from us!Show More

We were put in a room on the first floor wh...We’ve been coming here for years - business and pleasure. Gave the team a heads up well in advance that this time it was for a special occasion. The result? We were put in a room on the first floor where we were told it was quiet, the receptionist added there were no other rooms available - a missed red flag in hindsight. There was a small slit window, so no view at all. The room was tired, and not to the standard of our other visits. There were handles missing, dirt every where, a light with the switch head missing - exposing a nasty spike. We also found an ear ring just laying on the table top. Worst of all it was so noisy - completely the opposite of what the receptionist claimed. The gym was right next door - the door was being slammed 247, weights dropped etc. There was a communal use toilet nearby - again doors slammed, and you could hear the hand dryer. Our bathroom had a dripping tap and our air conditioning was a noisy old unit. Add to that smashed light fittings and electrical blankers missing screws and coming away from the walls. Some bulbs weren’t working either. The worst thing was the staff chatting, cleaning, slamming doors all through the night. They seemed to have no concept that there were residents here, albeit fewer than other floors. Aside from the odd gym goer most of the noise through the night and early morning came from staff. Vacuuming at 06:30 on a Sunday morning right outside - really???? This is stuff the Hotel management have control of and so are entirely responsible for. Sleep was understandably tough and we had to come back every afternoon to catch up with a nap. Even that got interrupted by a late room service at around 4pm. Sadly this is the last time we’ll be staying here. It’s a great location let down by poor management.Show More

The studio included a kitchenette that was well stocked with plates/utensils, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster...We had a wonderful 6 night stay in a roomy queen studio at the Fifty Sonesta. The studio included a kitchenette that was well stocked with plates/utensils, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster and small refrigerator. The queen studio had a small balcony. The beds were very comfortable. I noticed that the hotel photos show the rooms with carpeting. Our studio had hardwood (engineered) throughout. The three elevators were speedy and always available. Filtered water is available in the 2nd floor gym to refill your water bottle. They also offer $10 per day per room to use toward your choice of snacks/drinks, a surprising and appreciated treat. We love the midtown location and a subway entrance is just a block away. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Lastly Romeo their doorman will start and end your day on a high note.Show More
