Great location in Chelsea near the friend we were visiting on a girls' trip. The check-in line was quite long, but the attendant was pleasant. The room (507) was small but very clean. The USB charger between the beds did not work, although the outlet did. On the 5th floor, there was some initial noise at night, but it ceased as the night went on. In NYC, you have to expect some sirens and car horns, though the garbage truck was quite noisy early Sunday morning. Two full-sized beds were comfortable for two adults, but I would not recommend this room for more than two adults.
I removed a star because they deactivated both my friend's and my keycards well before the 11 am checkout on our first morning, and my friend was treated quite rudely by the front desk woman. While I *should* have put my friend's name on the reservation (btw it is unclear how to do this on the IHG app, however, and this was NOT suggested at checkin--generally I travel successfully without needing to do this), and I do not want an unauthorized person entering my room, my friend who had a (nonfunctional) key in her hand and whose cell phone needed to be charged by the cord located in the room was treated inappropriately for 30 minutes while I was a few blocks away at another activity. I would have much preferred that my friend had received kindly delivered, understanding, and clarifying questions, and perhaps the attendant had called or texted me for verification. Further, BOTH our keys were deactivated well before checkout time, which should NOT have happened. I mean, even people who intend to check out might want to grab breakfast without their luggage and return to the room before 11 am, which is totally normal.
The woman at the desk was defensive when the key deactivation was clearly the hotel's error, and she also struggled with language; for instance, she told me to "insert my keycard in the machine" when she meant "credit card," which helps to partially explain why the communication was so poor with my friend. Still, the situation could have been handled so much better, even with those limitations.
The second morning, the room keys worked upon our return from breakfast, and we formally checked out at 10 am. The man who brought us towels in the evening was quite pleasant, as were the other front desk attendants.Show More
